Multilevel spinal fusion for lumbar degenerative disc disease

Multilevel fusion as a primary treatment for low back pain from degenerated discs is a controversial topic in spine medicine. Only rarely is a two level fusion indicated, and lumbar spine fusion for three or more levels of the low back as a primary treatment for back pain is very rarely, if ever, recommended.
