Dr. J. Michael James received his medical degree from the University of Washington in 1968. He then went on to complete an internship at the Rhode Island Hospital from 1968-69, and his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Washington from 1969-71. He started a private practice in Anchorage, AK in 1973, and founded Rehabilitation Medicine Associates in 1976.

Dr. James is on the forefront for bringing Anchorage the latest, proven outpatient procedures to diagnose and treat pain and spine conditions. Some of his treatments include Acupuncture for Pain, IDET, Nucleoplasty, and Vertebroplasty; and other procedures provided on an outpatient basis.

The Alaska Spine Institute (ASI) is the only facility in the state of Alaska with a primary focus on diagnosis and treatment of spinal care, pain management, and neuromuscular rehabilitation, all integrated under one roof. Our facility includes a doctor's office, diagnostic facility including comprehensive imaging services, surgery center, and physical therapy and rehabilitation treatment center.
