TheraBands and Theracane

Hi Jenny,

The therabands (each color is a differen resistance) are used almost like you can use weights or stretching. Normally I use a color length of about 3 feet. Grab each end with one of my hands and pull apart. Attach one end to a door knob and the other end with a hand and pull straight out , etc. There are so many different exercises that can be done with them. Normally a booklet is provided with more details.
Example:

The Theracane is used to find pressure points and then put a good amount of pressure on them. That can simulate what a massage therapist might be doing. You dig in with one of those 'knobs' and work it around. I've used it on my back, neck and thoracic areas. I love it.

therabands

These are great for strenghtening your core stability muscles. Like Ron I tie mine over a door handle, pull my abs in as I pull the band todards me slowly. Control is the key
Then this can be done backwards ie with your back to the doorknob and pulling the theraband forward.
These exercises were given to me by the PT.
Oh and always keep knees slightly flexed.

Therabands

I use these as well. I tye a knot and put in the door crack and then close the door. I only have 2 that I got from PT. Where can you purchase these?

Mine actually came packaged

Mine actually came packaged with my exercise (yoga) ball. I feel like I've also seen them at Target? Lots of stores carry these types of products these days. My ball/theraband were made by Gaiam, and I got the set at Target.

therabands

I have a cedar log canopy bed.On the one post I tied a long blue theraband that I was given at PT. Evil

I tied a knot at each end and they are about equal length. I sit on my big ball and do a series of five exercises: pull out, diagonal one way, diagonal the other arms down at my side down and bakc and then pull in like a row. I do about 30 of them. It is good for core strength while balancing on the ball, I as told to stretch as far as I can and do them slowly.

My 6 year old opens my bedroom door and uses them to launch toys down the hall. They have many uses! Sticking out tongue

The surgical supply store near the hospital by me carries them.

Bands

My PT also carries the Therabands.

And I got something similar at a sporting goods store, Sports Authority; a set of resistance tubing with some handles. You can clip one or more bands/tubes on the handles, depending on how much resistance you want. It also comes with a little piece of webbing that has a hard plastic ball that is sewn into it, with a loop for the bands to run thru. The ball can be put behind a door, and it holds the loop in place. A different way of creating an anchor for the bands. Nike and some other companies sell similar devices.
