I don't know what to say. Did he yell at you or is was he just blunt and abrupt? Is that his normal style?

If he genuinely yelled at you, I'd be offended b/c you are an adult. It is certainly your right to see whoever you want.

Now, after taking a deep breath...I hope you read further. You saw a retiring Ortho who doesn't do surgery. What did the Ortho tell you?

From my vantage point, you have a PCP that cares despite his approach.

My PCP will help me get an appointment with doctors he knows. Clearly, your PCP is the same. One of his patients has a worry and clearly had an accident. Now that he knows he has reason to worry too and is probably upset "for you" because he can get you in faster to what seems to be your regular NS.

Sure it's good you went to get it checked out but you are clearly still hurting and from the sounds of it, you have a history with an existing doctor that may be able to give you better insight on the results. Maybe not.

You have 2 choices - find a new PCP or overlook his attitude and trust he was just acting out of worry for you, knowing next time, you call him and leverage his connections to get you appointments faster.

I hope the appointment goes well today and you can get some relief from any concerns.

Not knowing your Dr it hard to saywhy he was yelling.As for me if he was yelling and not helping me he would be gone.I have no time for Dr like that.I have fired a few in my days and will do again if they not there to help.
I do hope you and your Dr can work out your problem. If not I would be looking for one that will help

Yelling without helping = gone
Yelling with help = take his advice and help

but maybe you can call him after the appt with the NS and say "here's the update. Then tell him that while you didn't appreciate him yelling at you, thank you for helping secure an earlier appt".

had a major resentment for what you did. The doctor seemed to take it personally that you 'went' around them.

Of course you have the right to see which ever doctor you wish to. (Assuming this is not a workman's compensation case of VA)

Just as you have the right to see any doctor, doctors have a right to determine how much they will 'work' with a patient.

But, I can not see any rationale reason for the doctor to YELL at you. That is inappropriate.

Perhaps at a later point in time, you can call this doctor and talk this over.

Both my hubby and I use the same PCP.

In some cases I have gone to see specialists and they, in good faith, always ask who my primary care doctor is. The next time at my PCP visit my PCP would nicely say "I got a report from Dr. X, is he meeting your needs?" and if I say yes, then discussion over. For Pain Management I liked my PM doc but wanted more treatment options so PCP highly recommended another PM practice, but left the decision up to me. I did change PM doctors after meeting with the new one.

My PCP was not familiar at all with my new spine surgeon. Years ago PCP had referred me to an orthopedic spine surgeon he really liked. I used that doctor for both of my neck surgeries and it's true he did a great job. When I went back to that surgeon in 2009 he seemed disinterested. So I knew of a friend-of-a-friend who had great luck with another orth spine surgeon, and I ended up choosing the new surgeon. When I went in for my pre-op physical my PCP said "I hadn't heard of Dr. X before but I did some research and he is very highly regarded and seems to be a good choice". He did want to know why I chose not to go to prior surgeon and he was surprised at what I told him, but he was fine with me making my own choice.

We often use our PCP for referrals though our insurance does not require a referral. Friday hubby went to PCP for a foot problem. PCP gave my hubby a list of podiatrists they know well and recommend, but he also told my hubby that if there's someone else he'd like to see that's fine as well.

I guess what I'm saying, in a long winded way, that our PCP would only get "upset" if we chose someone who perhaps was known to be not highly skilled or if I chose a Pain Mgmt practice known as a pill pushing office.
