I hope it's ok that I've posted under the Back Surgery section because I had a PLIF on 1/3/08 and due to a failed surgery, will be facing another surgery in the near future.
This is such an exciting time to start fresh on the new Spine Health. My hope in continuing this thread is mainly that we are here to help each other through each day, whether it be moral support, questions, suggestions, a place to vent your fears, frustrations and/or anger about your physical pain and mental anguish, discuss your home support systems, building friendships and most of all being able to be yourself all the time. I want this thread to be a Safe Haven for all of us who are dealing with back surgery/recovery/cronic pain.
Please, NEGATIVITY or bullies are not welcome. If you don't approve of this thread and what all is being discussed on it, please hop on your scooter and move along to another thread. Thank you.

Injured on 1/27/07, did all conservative treatments, 36 sessions of PT, ESI Injection, Traction, Massage, PLIF on 1/3/08 L5/S1. Discharged from PT after 36 Session post-op end of May, 2008. L4/L5 was never fixed and is still herniated. Waiting for 2nd surginal opinion. Hi 5Kids, so good to see you here on the other side. LOL It's a little weird figuring everything out, but we'll all get it soon enough.
I'm so glad to hear you started PT. I think it will really do you some good, especially it will get you into a routine as well and give you time just for yourself and therapy. I can't wait to hear about your next session! Today was probably just your evaluation right? Remember that this is just your time and take advantage of that time being away from the kids and your hectic life.
I'm so so, woke up at 5:00 a.m. from a tummy ache and nightmares then went back to sleep and woke up with fever. Fever has been with me all day and it feels even worse right now, plus nausea. I sure hope it's nothing to be to concerned about. You know the apartment pool on Tuesday was pretty dirty, lots of bugs, etc., perhaps I got something from there? Obviously I didn't do the pool today.
Well, I'm going to continue figuring out the new site. So glad you posted in the Recovery Room.

Welcome to the NEW hangout! I was so glad to see your post here, I'm in a lot of mental anguish right now, and I just need support. I just posted in the surgery thread, but I got cut off, this is a little different from "middle school", and I wasn't even that good at posting there!
It was so good to talk to you today, Pebs. You have a really nice voice, and it was great to actually talk! As the
days go by, I'm really starting to thank God (and Pebbles!) for this outlet more and more. I am just a basket case tonight, can't even smile, worried sick. I still never got the letter from work today, so after my mail came I called up HR, and they said they just got an approval letter faxed to them from the capital. She read it to me. I am approved thru MONDAY at 10am. Then I have reached the Maximum hrs allowed. There is nowhere that it says that, but the whole system was written by lawyers so they know how to write the rules so that they can't be interpreted-only by them! Turns out it is a "lifetime, per injury" amount of hrs, and since I've always mentioned my back in my previous medical leaves of absence over the yrs, the total over the 26 yrs has been reached, and I"m off the payroll, and now I have to pay my entire medical insurance premium myself too, first pay't in 2 weeks!! I called the guy in the capital, and spoke to him for 25 mins., and he said there is absolutely "nothing they can do". I don't know how I'm gonna pay my mtg, car, chg cards, or even feed my kids this summer. I was actually hoping I would just not wake up after the surgery, I am so stressed about it. The girls are here and I just don't feel like being around anyone cause I'm too upset, and I don't want to scare them. I did tell them, and today they walked down to the school and got their "working papers" so they could pay the bills for me. That's so sweet, but they're only 15 and I think it may be hard to find a job!
Well I have done nothing but stress all day, I still have so much to do to prep for surgery, but this totally caught me off guard, as I had no idea they cut me off. They gave no indication or warning, and this rule is not written down anywhere. (that I know of). I am really careful w/my $ and my bills, so this is now a huge new stress for me. I was really shocked. UGH! But cancelling is NOT an option, because I am in agony the last few weeks, as you know, and I need to get through this and move on.
Sorry to be so negative in my 1st post in Pebbles' Playhouse, but I really need to vent!!

3 level 360 fusion L2 thru L5 11/07-Laminectomy w/Foramitonomy 1/08. Diagnosed w/ fail back syndrome in May of 08, had SCS implanted in June of 08. 70% free of pain after SCS. Have 2 broken screws might have instrumentation removed in the fall.....

Hoping and praying this one will be the one to last me a lifetime and no more surgeries.

Ok, so today I woke up feel horrible, with fever, tummy aches and from horrible nightmares again.
But I got out of bed and did some paperwork, followed up with Social Security and what all they need from me to get the ball rolling, also received a letter in the mail from my atty. saying we have a work comp mediation the end of July. I called the paralegal and asked her for the bizillion time, where is my 2nd surgeon that we filed a petition for back at the end of April. I was told that because work comp failed to follow up within 5 days of our petition that I will be able to go to whatever surgeon I want to!
FINALLY! In Florida you don't have a choice of surgeons with work comp and that's how I got butchered by the 1st surgeon. You have a once in a lifetime change per injury of doctors. So my PCP and Atty. ganged up on Work Comp to insist a specific surgeon that my PCP wants me to see who is in their network. It is very rare that Work Comp allows this to happen. So it really was a victorious day as far as that is concerned.
Now we just have to wait for the finally approval to come down, but no matter what WC is in default, so hopefully I will be scheduling a visit with the new surgeon within a week or 2. I had a great conversation with a fellow spiney today who suggested I ask my PCP to request an MRI so when I get the appt. with the new surgeon I will have the MRI ready to give to him. Thanks for that suggestion MusicGirl.

I'm not doing well at all, just took my temp and it's still over 100, queezy and my right butt,leg,hip,foot is completely tingly with pin/needles and pain. What in the word is going on??? I mean I'm almost 6 months post op!

I actually feel worse after talking to you. I won't be going to the pool until at least next Tuesday. I'm not sure if it made me sick or what, but I can play on my Yoga ball indoors. I always think of you and Spicey when I'm on the ball.
I imagine Spicey is sleeping right now in England, but I'm sure she'll make her appearance by time we wake up in the morning.

Well, I keep medicating myself for the right leg pain and the other for the fever but nothing is kicking yet. I just pray this fever breaks over night.

Whoever suggested getting the MRI early is great... I think that's what you should do right away so by the time they give you an appointment to see the new surgeon then you'll have a copy of everything with you... I'm hoping this one will be the surgeon that was worth waiting for, for all what you've been going through... Best of luck kiddo...

Thank you for the congratulations. Yes I am excited, but apprehensive at the same time because it WORKERS COMP! You know that deal. They say one thing then do the other. Although they did drop the ball on this one by not responding by the beginning of June. So, I'm just praying the approval comes soon. I don't know what happened but my entire right side, back, leg, butt, feet are pins/needles and the pain meds aren't doing the trick. Plus I've had a fever all day. I hope I'm not getting an infection again, I've been going to the apartment pool 2x's a week for about 3 weeks now and I have to tell you it's not the cleanest pool I've ever seen.

Miss Pebbs, you is one sick puppy. Whats up with the fever? are you consterpated? or the opposite? icky tummy + Fever = nasty flu, bowel issues on the way...that's all just possibilities. But really, I've had nausea all wee along with the bronchitis/sinus/pneumonia. that resp stuff is almost gone though and the nausea and low grade temp persist. You could have a tummy bug...usually fevers come with viral flu's or e-coli/salmonella type stuff...you did say you went in the PPpool...Hmmmm. Well, whatever it is, I'm am very sorry that you don't feel well. I took zofran and phenergan when I felt REALLY nauseated and they work really well. Ginger ale helps alot too. ate alot of soup (even though its too hot for soup right now).

How are you coming along my dear? Did you find out if you had Pneomonia? I pray it's not. What about your Hubby? I think you said he was feeling better?
Yeah, I have no idea what's up, I had the chills for 2 days and today had the feveR and tummy flipping stuff. But my whole right side, back, butt, legs, feet are really jamming tonight, also my left arm and hand has been numb and tingly which is really weird.
I have taken 20mg Oxicotyn, Percocet (2 hour later) thought it would be good for fever too, plus Soma and compazine for nausea. Then had Camaoile tea and cinnamon toast. I'm still wide awake and haven't slept since 5:00 a. yesterday. I sure hope I didn't get something nasty at the pool. I'm just so scared after the Staph of getting anything at this point you know?

Injured at work on 1/27/07, did all conservative treatments, 36 sessions of PT, ESI Injection, Traction, Massage, PLIF was on 1/3/08 L5/S1. Discharged from PT after 36 Session post-op end of May, 2008. L4/L5 was never fixed and is still herniated. Waiting for 2nd surginal opinion. Now I feel complete with you on the other side now. LOL Yeah, I was up until 6:00 a.m. playing with the new site. Plus wasn't feeling well at all, finally the meds won. But Simba & Sasha woke me up at 8:00 love them to death, but could have shipped them off somewhere else this morning.
It's so exciting we are all newbies here... love that idea.

How is your fever? Do you have any other symptons? There is a little bug going around here related to the sinus's- how are your lungs? We will have to chat this saturday- I just do not know when to call - you seem to be a night owl. LOL

My symptoms weren't too much with the sinuses/lungs, just over all yukie feeling, tummy rumbling, fever, nausea. Maybe I've just been trying to hard with the work out schedule. I'll have to talk to my Admin Assist and have him revise my weekly schedule.
We will definitely have to talk this weekend. Actually tomorrow afrer noon is perfect. Accordintly to my weekly calendar it's a PJ / I Love Lucy marathon day. I can always hit pause to talk to you.

hope your new Dr fixes your original problem and the hackers screw up also, Im so sorry to hear ablout your terrible out come, I kind of lost track of your situation in Feb thats when I had my surgery and you were staying in a hotel of a freinds cause of flooding in your apt... how did that end by the way? Did they fix everything?

Don't stress about the surgery too much. I beginning to believe that this second surgery may be the best thing that could have happened to me. It's better to go ahead and do it than not and be sorry. The consequences that we deal with aren't negotiable!
Your sense of humor can take you a long way and you'll laugh the docs into doing it your way 8)

Ok, let me give you the cliff not version of my old thread. Apartment was fixed after 54 days of bathing in the kitchen sink. Lost corporate job on 2/22/08. Got Staph infection 7 weeks post-op which we're not sure if it has to do with the sewage ravaged apartment or not. So, 9 weeks on antibiotics and all ok. Then had a hepititis scare, but that came back negative weeks later, thank goodness. PCP discovered a fibriod tumor so we are waiting for a new CT scan in 2 months. Now waiting for 2nd opinion surgeon.

thanks for asking my recovery went great, I was up walking the next day and showering the following day, Im 31/2 months out and have been released to start living again no restriction except if it hurts dont do it duhhhhh
so all I need to do now is remeber a life before my bad back and surgery( not sure I one LMAO) thats almost as scary as getting surgery....
thanks for asking, and I hope that the new Dr is as good as mine is,he was very concerned and even caught one of the little cages that holds the fake bone (for graphing) sliding at l4 s1 and put a bridge in so it wouldnt hit that nerve any more and I woldnt need another surgery...
Hey ill see if I can talk him into a vacation in Fla and you can ambush him so he can do your surgery OK????????

Thank you so much for putting that new spin on the 2nd surgery. So you are happy you had them go back in? You know I did tell me PCP that I refuse to go full circle with injections and nonsence just to come back to the realization that surgery is the only way to fix the problem. I told him and the WC nurse that this is a NEW GAME and they are going to play by my rules. I feel so much better this time, because I've had 5 months of collecting data and knowledge from SH and members here. So now I know I have a voice and plan to use it no matter what. I will not let the new surgeon bully me around, although from what I've heard about him, he is an amazing surgeon. So I had the worst now I want the best.
Also this new surgeon only does backs!!! The butcher I had fixed fingers, toes, Weiners, everything. I was told that this surgeon will even tell me the truth about what the 1st surgeon did or better yet, didn't do properly, like FIX MY HERNIATED L4/L5. Can you say Malpractice???
