Set for surgery in about 4 weeks. Decompression/fusion with rods, etc. At this point, I am in constant, debilatating pain, reduced to crawling most of the time. No help from the surgeon. Is that acceptable?
hi my name is pete. youre talkin to the right person. i crawl most of the time. is it acceptable?.....i guess i've accepted it. not the greatest existence but some people have it worse than us. remember now the surgeon's job is to cut you up and fix you up. all he can do before the surgery is prescribe pain pills. has he done that?
If crawling eases the pain then that's what you need to do. it is a blessing just to have a position that's comfortable.
well, hang in there, try to relax and i hope the surgeon can fix things up. oh by the way have you gotten a few opinions?

Hey and welcome! I know that I've said this to others over and over, as well as I know sometimes it's just impossible, and you feel hopeless, but try to stay as positive as you can. Pete's absolutely right about meds, and if you are not being prescribed any, you need to talk to your surgeon. In fact my question would be: HAVE you talked to him about the fact that it's so bad you must crawl? If not, CALL HIM NOW!
I know Pete really has no other choice, as he can't take pain meds , and you may not either, but if you can, take advantage of what relief they can give you. (no matter how little)
Other than that, try to stay occupied with something you love, in a position you can be in comfortably. Try meditation if it helps you. Hot/cold and all that other stuff. Keep your mind busy as much as you can, and soon you will be waking up after surgery and on your way toward recovery.
Take care, and let us know how it goes!

I know exactly how you feel. I was in excruciating pain w/o any relief in any way until my surgery so you have my understanding and sympathy. I didn't think I'd make it to the surgery, but I did, and you will too! Surgery is such a relief after living like that....you are in my thoughts....watch tv, anything funny, animal shows, anything you can do to take your mind off the pain as much as you can!
But call your dr. just in case he can try another med or up the surgery date or something!
Good luck! Take care of yourself and keep us updated.
