had had hip/lef pain for almost a year. Pain when sitting, changing positions, etc. This past July an MRI revealed a synovial cyst in my facet joint at L4-5 as well as severe arthritis. NO disc herniation or disk involvemnet at all.Treated with 3 sets of steroid/facet joint injections, 2 steroid dose-packs as well as hydrocodone for pain. None of this treatment worked.
10 days ago I had the cyst removed by a neurosurgeon along with a laminectomy. My surgeon expected immediate pain relief with excision of the cyst. I woke up in the hospital the night of surgery with agonizing cramps in the back of my thigh. I came home and hafd similar pain as I had before the surgery, and 3 nights of such horrible cramping pain in my thigh into the back of my knee that I was screaming, pain level 10. My surgeon added a steroid dose pack, then Neurontin. Still no relief.
Brought me in for another MRI to make sure the entire cyst was removed and nothing else was wrong. All ok. Now he has changed Neurotin to Trileptin. I have finished the steroid pack. He has increased the Trileption to 2x a day, 300 mg along with 5mgs of Hydrocodone every 4 hours. I am very frustrated and upset. We are thinking my nerves are so inflamed and irritated from the months of pressure from the cyst. My surgeon says my results are highy unusual. I am supposed to go back to work (sitting at a computer all day) in less than 2 weeks. It is not getting any better, nothing helps other than temporary comfort from heating pad/ice. Has anyone had a cyst like this with continued nerve pain?
