Back and Neck Surgery

I had lower back surgery in May 2008 and neck surgery in March 2009. Is it unrealistic of me to think I should be pain free?

Hi and welcome to SH

Knowing what type of surgeries you had would be helpful in answering your question. Some procedures are not enough to take care of your problem. Others, such as fusion, usually leave you with some degree of pain or discomfort afterwards. Fusion also has a very long recovery period, sometimes over a year.

I hate to think I'll be left with any kind of pain. I know it takes time but I'm hopeful that I'll just feel a bit different.

I can't imagine I'll feel as good as I did on my good days prior to surgery but if I change my activities I hope I'll feel no pain.

I know it takes time and my doctor tells me not to expect end results for at least a year. He said it could take up to 2 years.

After 3 months the recovery from surgery is coming a long. I surely do not feel like myself. I had a 3 level ACDF so my body is still upset. I'm getting stronger every day.

My neck is still very stiff and I have to do my neck motion faithfully or it tightens up but I can see a big improvement.

neck surgery

I've had three neck surgeries over the past 12 yrs.A failed fusion at c4 and c5 redone 2 yrs later and a fusion of c5 and 6 oct 08 and I hate to be a bringdown but I hurt worse now than ever before,never really ever stopped hurting.Best of luck to you all
