MRI and xray results brain storm needed

Okay,
So I got my lumbar MRI (with contrast) and xray results, I know i'll have to discuss with the doctor but he rather hard to get a hold of.
Good news is the fusion looks fine and it's done it's fusey thingy. No disc herniation or neural compromise at any level seen.
But...Spondylosis was noted throughout the lumbar spine and there is Modic type 1 changes at L5/S1.
My questions are:
1. I've had several xrays and MRI's over the past 3 years and spondylosis has never been mentioned for the lumbar spine. How is it possible to have just one bad disc months ago to having spondy through the entire spine now? It just seems so rapid. My knee arthritis has done the same thing, gone down hill really fast.
2.This is the first mention of Modic type 1 in all my MRI's, what is the significance of this? I understand that it's bone marrow oedema, can it be as a result of the fusion?
Any and all opinions gratefully appreciated.
Kylie

Hmmm...

Not sure about the spondy but it really does seem to me that the fusion changed the dynamics of everything in your spine that it could have caused it.

As for the knee, I have had the same thing happen with the arthritis in my knee. It was explained to me that anytime you have back issues you will walk differently and place more strain on different areas of your body than pre back issues.

I hope that helped some and I feel sure that someone else will come along soon to comment.

Good luck!
