I'm Deb. Good to be were with others who can relate. I've
lived with chronic back pain for 20 years (Work injury) , neck and upper back for 9 years from MVA. I just kept plugging and working (RN)best I could until I fainted and hit my head last spring; that has stopped me...traumatic brain injury. Now I fell again on icy stairs and wrenched my spine, neck, hips and knees. My spine is riled. I've seen a chiro for 1st time for $$$ reasons (I'm not working so we're hurting money wise, but chiro adjustments not helping much. So... I see a pain specialist in 2 weeks..have seen one in the past. Took NSAIDS through the years til GI can't handle them anymore. Neuro says I have fibromyalagia but methinks there's a bit more underlying...scar tissue, arthritis...etc. I haven't had a new evaluation so its time and the pain doc may send me to an ortho I know. Lyrica and Tylenol (woe to my liver I know)doesn't take care of the pain. I used to take Tramadol with success but my brain gets too wired on it now. Also have anxiety and sleep disorder with Brain injury. Cannot tolerate Amitryptilline and lots of drugs now.
Past surgeries/procedures: L5-S1 allograft fusion 1988 from work injury, ACDIF with plates and screws C5-6 from MVA, old and new arthroscopic knee repair 1984 and 2007 Past ESI's to neck and low back.
MEDS: Synthroid, Topamax (seizure after head injury) Lyrica, Lunesta, Xanax days, Valium HS, Tylenol Arthritis
Hope to get to know some of you soon and thanks for this forum and its very helpful info!

Hi Deb,
Welcome to Spine Health. Bummer about the road you have had to travel that brought you here, but welcome to a place where we understand.
I certainly hope that your pain management doc will give you a referal. At least get someone to take "a look" at your spine and see how things really are. Especially if you slipped on ice and fell. Duh! You would think that would send them into an imaging frenzy.
So did they categorize your brain injury as a "closed brain injury"? Just curious. I have been reading a lot on that and it is amazing how it is just now really being recognized and being treated more aggressively.
I can't take most NSAIDs for very long before they begin to rip me apart, but the Cox-2 inhibitors work wonders.
Well, welcome and I look forward to hearing about you getting some great help and some pain relief!

Yes I have a mild to moderate TBI- traumatic brain injury. I cannot work anymore (after 30 years as a nurse) and my family is dealing with a new Deb...new personality and everything. TBI is an invisible disability thats been overlooked for a long time and just now being recognized.
Many of our vets struggle with TBI- My neuro tells me some ADHD kids may really be kids who hit their heads.
So glad you can take Cox 2's..I can't even with Prilosec OTC-- I will get night time heartburn.
Thanks for the welcome!

I am terribly sorry to hear of all of the accidents that you have had and all of the damage that they have caused. You are right you are here among friends that really do understand. Anytime that you want or need to talk, please feel free to post. There is usually someone online to talk to. Good luck with your PM doc and please keep us posted on the outcome.

Thanks for saying HI and your kind words..hope you're having some Good Days.
Welcome, Sounds like being an rn, you know your way around the medical field. Personally, chiros. have done nothing but hurt me more. But other than saying that I'd like to welcome you, you'll get allot of support and help here.
Good luck, Jim

Your handle must be 'Ask me about my Grandbabies!' or "Babies" guys can be Daddies a lot later than we can be Mamas...LOL!
I too have been leery of chiros all my life and mine is using the tiny thumper only...no bone crunching techniques allowed on my tender spine!! I am now on a 2 week vacation from him and am seeing what the pain does, I may not return. I will see what the PM and ortho I see (I assume) recommend based on their eval of any new scans they wish to do. I am not yet sold either.
Thanks for saying Hi
Deb
You've been through a whole lot Paul. When I catch myself complaining I just read other peoples bios.
You folks have have a great site for support and info. I've been browsing through and lurking awhile before I joined.
Ya, the chiro is an iffy and is on a trial basis. My hubby swears by his chiro...goes every 6 weeks or so and stays off meds except for flares then his doc gives him Celebrex and occ Vicodin and Flexeril. He does well but moved out of his heavy lifting job into a desk job.
I didn't have the education to move to a desk job in nursing, so probably worked too long, had repetitive stress injuries to low back following initial low back injury. Then a car wreck hurt my upper back and neck too.
Matt is a young 25 and back under Mommy and Daddy's roof after a nasty divorce and unfortunate set of circumstances...long sad story. He has ADHD and struggles.
Thanks for saying HI!
