Pulsating could be a blood vessel pushing against a nerve, aneurism? or other nasty business.

I can't sleep with my SCS on because it pulsates. When I complained about it to my PM he said the only way to fix that is to turn off my heart. I told him I generally thought that to be a bad idea.

Go get yourself checked out.

Thanx...I did tell my GP at my last visit but he didn't seem concerned at all & told me to wait until I see the specialist. Sooo frustrating and unbelievably painful.

Hopefully I'll have an answer to my mysterious symptoms soon.

zammer - i do get the same thing. BUT mine is in my lower back. It happens almost every night. It is a feeling of total weakness like there is no strength left there. Like a rubber band that has been cut. But I also get the pulses.

My Dr remains clueless what it is.

I have asked around these boards too and no one seems to have an idea either.

Thanx HD...My Doc is clueless TOO. I do believe it's my "synovial cyst" causing all this grief but when they found it years ago in 2005, it wasn't causing me huge problems back then, so they left it alone and I forgot all about it. But I still have all the CT's & MRI's to prove it. So I'm going to the specialist with ALL of them in tow.

However, since my last back injury at work in Sept things have gotten much much worse, the palpitations & nerve pain are outta control, I've been doing alot of research on the whole cyst subject, not alot out there but found that they DO palpitate and cause neurological problems.

Darn thing feels like an alien living inside me pulling at my nerves!!! I need it OUT...NOW!!!

Here are some of the things I've found about synovial cysts...

-A synovial cyst is a fluid filled lesion that arises from a degenerative facet joint (arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis) of the spine or other joint locations like hip, knee, shoulder, etc.

-Symptoms can mimic hernated disc, spinal stenosis, spondylosis and cause sciatica, facet joint degeneration. Symptoms may vary depending on the cyst location.

-Can be attributed/seen on CT as a fluid such as "gas" or "water" signal or masses that may be calcified. Best seen on MRI.

-As the cyst expands locally it may compress parasymathetic fibers to the bladder, bowel or sexual organs or selectively comprimise a single dorsal root.

-Synovial cysts may also develop in a degenerated apophyseal joint, most frequently at the L4 - L5 spinal level. Cysts that are medial to the ligamentum flavum appear as nearly round structures that displace epidural fat and may indent the dural sac. The capsule of the cyst is usually noticeably denser than the fluid contents and may be calcified. In some cases the fluid in the cyst is replaced with gas.

-Noctural Pain
-Sciatica, radicular pain

By researching and talking to people on this forum sure helped me understand and put two & two together, NOW if only a doctor will get this painful foreign beast out of me!!!

don't drive yourself mad doing to much research ..if your doctor believes that you are ok ..one thing i would say is and wrambler mentioned it have you been checked for an aortic aneurysm ? this is worth asking your doctor about .you are at risk from about 40 years old but there are certain conditions that could predispose you like marfan's syndrome.and heavy smoking and and a few other things .

I have, in the past, had a pulsating sciatic pain, especially when I lie on my back on the floor because I'm in pain. It seems to bring on the pulsating pain. I don't get it very often; I've thought it was probably caused by compression on an artery.

Reading your problem makes me glad I haven't had it all the time. I do hope that they find out what causes it for you, and then manage to treat it.
