I fell ! Losing use of left LEG now! Scared BIG Time!

Note* sorry for title screw up meant to say "I fell ! Losing use of left LEG now! Scared BIG Time!"

Here is what happened:

Thanksgiving evening walking through our living room, 4 grand kids here to spend the night. It's all good Grin

Then I fell. No warning, no pain, no nothing - just me on the floor telling GKs to get pappy ( who was sleeping ).

He got me up ( I can't get off floor on my own since being injured - something to do with the legs working with me ? ) and I actually started to laugh. I was in no pain - grand kids were pretty shock up though, so I started to laugh and called myself a klutz.

Fast forward - in the past 12 hours I have fallen 2 more times even while using my cane ( first time I was not using cane ). The very lower small of my back feels like someone blew up a balloon and put it inside me.

Left leg ( which is my most injured/involved side of lower body ) is losing feeling but not really. It just feels weird. However strength is quickly leaving it.

Now even with cane on one side and hubby on the other I can't put weight and use the leg like normal, it won't hold my weight, as it is very weak now. Pain is greatly increasing.

I do have a super bum knee on that side that needs replaced BUT I don't think this is knee related - not sure.
The knee is in horrible pain and more so after each fall. But I did not get a pop in the knee anytime before I fell as I have before and always been able to catch myself. However I am also walking very guarded - ya know. So that in it's self would make knee hurt more I would think.

I did get in to see my chiropractor who said to get a walker at least for now. My concerns are won't it just "shoot" right out from under me and give me something else to fall into or have to chase after I am down?
I was not able to get adjusted as I could not lay down on my stomach. My body kept jerking when I tired to lay down flat.

Here we are Friday night - holiday weekend. Do I go to ER? Do I call my back Dr? (I have not had any surgeries )that handles my meds and tests and such when I need them.

Is any of these red flag warnings of something I need to be seen for ASAP?

Do I wait till Monday and call then? Puzzled

Opinions wanted PLEASE....

I would call the on-call

I would call the on-call doctor at your orthopedic or neuro and let them know. Having an entire leg not support you seems like a pretty big change in symptoms to me Sad

I Agree

100% with HB, I would be making a call if I fell three times, something is not right.
I hope its not to serious, but IMO you should seek medical attention.

Let us know how you make out.
Good luck!

Thanks I guess I am

Thanks Smile

I guess I am thinking it is the holiday weekend and I bother a Dr. and IF it is "just" my bad knee then I won't remain the good patient category I am now in - ya know Wink

L1 - S2 "gone" useless in 1 way or another. DDD. RA. Bone Spurs. Tons of nerve damage/issues. Stenosis. Both knees replaced. 50 yrs old. I had a great fall (hence my user name) at age 41 and it has been a domino effect every since.

Imagine what a terrible patient you will be if you don't call and end up with permanent nerve damage or something as a result? Just call Smile

Call

Ms. Humpty,

I hope you called in! I'm still on my RV trip, and have been pushing it big-time. With that, I get that uneasy, weak feeling as well. Yesterday I tried to walk a few steps without the cane, and darn near went down - burning and utter weak feeling in my front thighs. The only reason *I* am not calling is I am pretty darn sure I overdid big time!

You haven't described doing things way over your norm, so this could be a change that your doctor needs to know about. My nerve issues are the L2 and L3 nerve roots. Please let us know how it goes. *HUGZ*

Hi MsHumpty...

I also agree with the others. I would place a call to your doctor to let him know about your falls and see what he advises.

I use a walker for support and it works really well. As long as you walk slow and cautiously, it should help to support you. If you feel it won't support you, do you have a wheelchair? I sometimes have to use mine for appointments when my right knee is acting up, etc.

Please keep us posted.

Thinking of you!

Thanks all for being here

Thanks all for being here for me - it is GREATLY appreciated Grin

OK. After a very long and almost sleepness night. I now know it is the knee and not my back. The pain in the "bone area" is unreal and no meds are touching it Sad

I think the rest all came from the falls themselves and of course using the bad knee after what ever happened to make it so much worse/weak.

However I still may go to our local ER as the pain is really getting worse & worse. BUT first a call to my Dr before I do that.

We have 2 walkers in storage - just in case. One with wheels, one without. Hubby went and got me them both and I have used the one with wheels today. (off note* how does one all grimp up keep lifting the type without wheels is beyond me! )

As terrible as this sounds, I HATE the walker! I can't walk and carry stuff, all I can DO is walk........sigh
But hopefully if I go down again it will help me out then.

I am VERY quickly seeing how this "new" injury is already making life difficult. I can't even chance "running" to the store for a dang loaf of bread without taking hubby. This will get old VERY fast!!!!!

Yeah I know a horrible attitude on my part. For now let's blame it on the increase of pain I am in Wink

Update: OK that was fast.

Update: OK that was fast. Thankfully no one else was in the ER.
Bottom lime is it IS my knee - which I am thankful for as that means I don't have something new happening with my back. Smile

The tests show DBD, severe arthritis, bone on bone, bone spurs and some word that begins with a C ( paper work in other room right now ) that I can't remember.
All equals a knee replacement - which I already knew.

The Dr offered me more pain meds. but when I asked if he felt they would really worked he said "doubtful", so we went with a steroid shot and steroid pills instead.

His thinking of my weakness in leg is due to it now doing all the work on it's own with no help from the knee - makes sense to me.

I will follow up with my normal Dr. Monday and we will go from there.

Again, my thanks to all of you Smile

MsHumpty

Sorry to hear that your knee issues are continuing to deteriorate, but glad to hear your back isn't getting worse. I hope you are feeling better now that you know what is going on. Feel better soon. *HUGZ* Thanks too for the update. Smile
