I had an L5/S1 fusion 6 months ago, and 2 weeks post surgery my 3 year old gave me a hug and fell backwards on his bed without letting go,
pulling a muscle and/or tearing the fascia. I began having severe muscle spasms that continued for nearly 7 weeks. In a follow up MRI, I noticed a slight bulge in the muscle wall. I asked my surgeon about it and he informed me that it was an area where the muscle was no longer attached to the vertabrae. He also said it was possibly a result from my incident, or that he may not have been able to reattach the muscle during the surgery, but not to worry because the muscle will adapt to its new position. This has proven to be a very difficult situation to work through, and a very slow recovery. My back gets fatigued very quickly in this area and when exercising, this area seems to get inflamed easily, scaring me from consistent exercise. Is this a problem that will resolve itself in time? ( I know the muscle will never reattach itself) Or will this always be an issue? Is there a possibility for a corrective procedure? Thank you In advance for your input, Bill.
i am sorry i have no experience with a detached muscle.
someone i am sure can help you out, but welcome and keep in mind a fusion recovery takes a very long time so hopefully that site will simmer down as muscle spasms resolve.
good luck
Hi,
I am now 3 weeks post lumbar spinal fusion of L5 and S1.
Still very stiff and sore. Worried because I am still having harsh pain in my legs as prior to surgery. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Valerie
