DDD with L5 S1 nerve root herniation.

This is my first post so I hope this is the right place. First I have severe non-stop leg and foot pain 24 hours a day. A recent MRI reveals: "Moderately severe degenerative disk disease at the L5-S1 level with superimposed right foraminal / lateral zone disk herniation contributing to severe right sided neural foraminal stenosis."

The lumbar epidurals shots no longer work and the pain is kicking my back side. My neurosurgeon appointment is 2 months away (must be a shortage of neurosurgeons). Is the above description of the L5 S1 something most surgeons would consider for surgery? To me this sounds serious...

Thanks for any input!!

hi

I would ask your Dr. to send your MRI report to this new surgeon to see if he could get you in sooner. Do you take a nerve pain med like Lyrica or Cymbalta to help with the nerve pain? If the pain gets worse or numbness I would go to a spine center with your MRI report and CD disk and get another opinion. It's awful you have to wait so long to see a Surgeon. Charry
