Hi all.. I have had lower back issues for some time. They have increasingly gotten worse. I am a police officer, and wear a gun belt every day with a LOT of gear. Tomorrow will be my last day for quite a while. I am also a cancer patient, battling leukemia. I have had previous laminectomy of the L5/S1.. that is now shot. I have L4/L5 herniated disc, and bulging discs in the L5/S1 and L3/L4. A benign tumor on the L1, and advancing disc disease. I am scheduled for ALIF and PLIF (at the same time) on Jan. 27, 2012. They will take bone from my hip for grafting.
So.. it's T minus 8 till surgery day.. Very nervous.
Good luck to everyone here, and I appreciate ALL of the information you can give.
Mary
HI,
Welcome to a great site for info and support, cause all of us spineys and neckies understand. You certainly have alot on your plate, and I wish you well with your upcoming surgeries. All that gear that you wear has not been kind to your spine. My brother in law was a cop, and I never realized how heavy all that stuff was! There is no doubt that it will take months to heal... Do you have someone who could stay with you for at least the 1st week or so until you see how you feel?
I understand your being nervous, and if there's anything anyone here on this site can help you with or just support you, you just let us know as we may be in pain, but we're friendly! Best wishes!
Frannie
