Geez---I guess this is more to worry about. Has anyone had any side effects from Fosamax like breaking a bone?? I use Boniva monthly. The more I learn about this stuff, the more I worry. Maybe ignorance is bliss!---Mazy
I take fosamax-but who knows---I wonder if it is worth taking-
well behaved women rarely make history
I had my yearly DEXA exam today. HIGH ANXIETY!! Been on Fosamax or Boniva for 5 years. I hear it is supposed to keep your bones from getting worse but not help them get better!--Mazy
having a reconstruction of her jaw, after being diagnosed with a fracture of the jaw. This is not a typically pretty procedure like many plastic surgery procedures...No, this was destructive, with mod limited mobility of the jaw.
The sad thing is that she was doing what she was told to do to prevent osteoporosis.
Then there is another class of drugs to prevent osteoporosis. The drug, Forteo, stimulates the parathyroid secreting hormone to help the parathyroids regulate Ca++. One side effect is development of lymphoma. I have Celiac's disease, which cares with it an increased risk of lymphoma, so I think I will pass on all of the above.
I have been working on the nutritional aspects. Things that help Calcuim be taken up by the cell.

I stopped taking it almost a year ago, after my DEXA showed no improvement. I had been on it five years. What's odd is that I have not had any shoulder or hip pain since I have been off of it. I told my primary care doc that I have decided to stay off Boniva/Fosamax type drugs for now.--Mazy
Some side effects may be a sign of something more serious and should be reported immediately to your health care provider. Urinary side effects include bladder pain, frequent urination, bloody or cloudy urine, painful urination and lower back or side pain.
The Bowen Technique is not massage, acupressure or chiropractic. There is no manipulation, adjustment or force used. The practitioner uses thumbs and fingers to gently move muscles and tissues. In between each set of moves, the practitioner leaves the room. EDITED

I've been off these drugs a little over a year. I gotta get a DEXA to see if I am doing better or worse without them.
