Scoliosis or short leg issues

I have been told by a chiropractor and acupuncturist that my upper back pain is most likely caused by the asymmetry of my body. I will be seeing my NS for a complete body scan to see if I have scoliosis or if my hip is level or if one leg is anatomically shorter. Since I was 12 years of age, I always noticed that the pant leg on my right side was always longer. Maybe this has been the cause of my spine issues and the fact that my upper left shoulder and neck muscles are so damn tight!

Is there any one out there who discovered that they have scoliosis as the root of their spine/muscular issues? I was told that my posterior neck muscle spasms are not related to the surgery or symptoms of a C5/6 complex. I would love to hear from someone with a similar dilemma! Thanks! Smile

Hi Lili ....

Well, I only just found this post.

My GP is wondering if I have thoracic rotation, which I believe is a form of scoliosis.

As I am due to have a full spine MRI scan done in the next couple of months, we are waiting to see if that shows any scoliosis.

My chiropractor 2 1/2 years ago told me that I have one shoulder down (right), one hip up (right) and one shorter leg (right). He gave me a lift for my right shoe.

A dressmaker 6 years ago told me that I have my right shoulder lower than the other. I often have to take in the seam on the right shoulder to make my clothes hang properly. I have also noted that my left breast seems to be larger than the right one! My ribs on the left side seem to protrude more than on the right side.

I get a lot of spasms and pains around my chest, these days especially on the left side, wrapping around where my ribs are.

I wonder what we will discover!!

According to my chiropractor, the asymmetry of the spine causes an imbalance of muscles on each side and will eventually speed up degeneration of the spine. That explains why at the age of 42 I have much spine issues! Smile

Lili ??

Did your chiropractor tell you what you can do about it to slow down the degeneration?

It is a worry as to what the future will hold.
I have so many problems and pains now, that I feel I am always moaning about some area or other. Then I decide I will ignore it all, but that is impossible when you keep getting pains, and other symptoms throughout the day and night.

Did your NS diagnose you with scoliosis?
I haven't been actually diagnosed, but certainly do have a lopsided body.
I had a new pair of trousers shortened a few weeks ago, and my right leg had to be 1 inch shorter than the left. The dressmaker asked me if I had scoliosis. Her daughter does, which is why she recognised the symptom.

I wonder now, if that is what has caused my problems. Mind you, I have always been very double jointed, and my physio has told me that is lax ligaments which could be what has caused all my degeneration. (That was before this question of thoracic rotation was raised.)

Then again, I had a fall from high up in a treee as a child that knocked me unconcious. I had been told that was probably what caused my pars fracture that led to my spondylolisthesis.

When you put it all together, no wonder I have all the problems that I have!

Hope you are having a good weekend. Big Hug

Wow! A fall that left you unconscious! I've never had such a serious injury. That's not to say that I haven't had my share of childhood injuries that could have sped up my degeneration: falling off the monkey bars head first, crashing into a parked car on my bicycle, getting whacked in the face by a hockey stick, etc.

You should have a spine specialist assess whether your short leg is anatomical or is caused by tight muscles in the hips that pull your hips up. In my case, my right leg is only slightly shorter and has caused my right hip to rise up. My chiropractor told me that I was well over a 1 inch difference! Ever since I started to get leg pain, I've noticed the significant difference. He looked at my MRI report and said that my herniation isn't that bad and the leg pain is from the tight hip muscles. I've been stretching my hips and trying to loosen up the hips. So far, I've noticed a difference from doing my stretches.

My asymmetry has caused a mild scoliosis in my thoracic spine. I want to stop the scoliosis from getting worse. I have my next appointment with my NS at the end of September. I doubt if there's much he will say since the surgery was a "success" and I am not eager to have surgery in my lumbar anytime soon.

My cervical surgery fixed the pain that was coming from C5/6, but the residual pain tells me something is not right. I will continue to find the source of my pains, because I do believe that pain is the way your body warns you something is wrong! Wink

unconscious

I was only unconscious very briefly.
The girl I was playing with ran inside the house and told my sister I was dead!! She came and found me conscious again and made me stand up and touch my toes to make sure I hadn't broken my back!!

I did also get knocked out when playing cricket at school when I was about 11. I got hit by the cricket ball (real, hard one) on the side of the head that knocked me over and out!! Again, not for long. When I came to, the teacher told me off for not concentrating!!

I will follow you very carefully to see what you find out about your misaligned spine Lili.

Do you take a calcium supplement?
I have read that if you have scoliosis, you should do all you can to make sure that you don't get osteoporosis.

scoliosis

My mild scoliosis is only in the thoracic and is a result of my misaligned spine. I was never diagnosed with it, so not really sure if I have it or not. I am not good about taking my supplements, although I do occasionally take calcium, B12 and others.

Jelly, I will keep you informed of any new findings after my meeting with the NS. Please keep me up to date on your condition! Smile
