Living with Congenital Cervical Stenosis??

So, long story short, I was supposed to have a laminectomy at the same time that I had my ACDF surgery. However, due to a hurricane hitting the doctor only did the ACDF. Now I am wondering what can I expect further down the road with having congenital cervical stenosis? The doctor "may" still end up doing the laminectomy if things do not look better in a few months but I am not certain I want it. If I get the laminectomy it will put me out of the Navy (the ACDF surgery is something that the Navy feels I can recover to full duty from the laminectomy is not) so I am wondering what life with congenital cervical stenosis will be like. I am only 28 but it is apparently already bad enough to have given the neuro surgeon cause to want to do the surgery.

Thanks.

OK after looking up ACDF

OK after looking up ACDF Surgery I am not sure why the Navy thinks this surgery and the Laminectomy surgery are not the same. I am at the point of having surgery, but I am holding off until next Feb. Is your neuro do a major surgery or is he doing the one were they just cut a window in the vertebra and going around to trim the disc to make the opening in your nerve canal bigger? That is the one my neuro is going to do on me. He said I would be out for 2 to 3 weeks then lite duty and in a back brace for two months. You are very young to be having this may problems, I do not know how much pain you are in but I have been dealing with this for 4 years now and 1 year of high. I have had two or three friends that have had the same surgery (Laminectomy) and they all have told me to not put it off it just gets worse.

a Laminectomy is a very

a Laminectomy is a very different surgery from ACDF. A laminectomy is where the center or lamina part of the vertebrae posterior side is surgically removed. ACDF is done through the front of your throat and is a surgery where discs between the vertebrae are removed, due to extreme herniation, and replaced with bone/bone graft and titanium plates. I had the ACDF due to extreme disc herniation but a;so have spinal stenosis that is fairly bad and the doctor thinks the laminectomy is needed though I am holding out hope that the recovery from the ACDF will make me not need it.
