I just recently had my second L5-S1 "aspen fusion" surgery in one year. I am a 27 year-old female with advanced degenerative disc disease. Five months following my first surgery I finally went to my neuro surgeon complaining of constant, chronic pain that was no better since my surgery. After four months of tests and follow-ups they determined that the fusion was not successful and scheduled me for my second surgery.
I am now seven weeks post-op and the pain is no better. I am now also experiencing leg pain in my left leg. My doctors office has been trying to wean me off strong pain medication since week three. Instead of taking one or two percocet a day, I'm now having to take four lortabs at a time, twice a day. At my six-week post op appointment my doctor didn't even look at the incision once I told him I was no better. The top of the incision is still swollen and he ordered another MRI and an EMG for my leg.
Has anyone else had this surgery? Was it successful?
I have spoken with 3 people today who had the aspen procedure. all had a GREAT experience and excellant results. Two hadn't been able to work for 9 years and both have returned to work after only 3 months.
I'm going in for two clips next week. Hoping for the same results. Sorry to hear that you experience wasn't what you expected. Perhaps it was the practicioner???
Hopefully time will improve ---GOOD LUCK
