Hello from a newbie
Hi everyone, I am 61 years old (young!) and have had low back pain for years. X-rays showed arthritis about 15 years ago and a recent MRI showed spinal stenosis in the lumbar area, not a severe case but bad enough. I am now going to physical therapy, which after 2 1/2 weeks has not helped much but at least I don't need narcotic pain relievers and can do okay with OTC extra strength. My problem is that I have started having pain, fairly severe, in my left groin area, in the crease between thigh and pelvis - about where the lymph node is. There is also slight swelling of the lymph node but it is not tender to the touch and is not hard and fixed. However the pain radiates from about that spot and down my inner and front thigh, a burning pain. The orthopedic doctor asked me several weeks ago if I had leg pain and I said no, then it started not long after that. From what I have read it is common to have leg pain with lumbar spinal stenosis, but everything I read seems to indicate that the pain is in the BACK part of the leg, and in the buttocks. I found nothing that described pain in the groin area. Recently it has occasionally flared up on the right side, also, the same type of pain and also radiating down the inner thigh. My question (finally!) is if anyone else has experienced the same kind of pain with lumbar stenosis or DDD?

Sorry you're having more pain. I've had some leg and groin shooting pains also. Contact the Ortho Dr. again and in the meanwhile see your Primary Dr. about your new symptoms. It may be Physio may be strenuous on you or it could be anything. I have DDD and previously a herniated disc. Take care. Charry

Mild DDD of complete lumbar area with recent healing of L5-S1 HD and annular tear.Leg &foot weakness nerve compression L4-L5.Mod. disc changes C5-C7 nerve impingement sore elbow and numb hand. Sept. 2011 MRI L4-L5 disc bulge and L5 facet joint and narrowing. Meds-Oxycontin 80mg,Cymbalta,Lyrica, Flexeril,Naproxen,Serax. Platinum Infrared heating pad. ER and Oncology trained and Cardiology RN on Disability. Keep the faith.
I did experience the groin pain that you describe in the beginning. I actually thought at first that I had a hernia but the pain was related to my back. Your best bet will be to talk to your doc in order to be sure. Good luck and please keep us posted.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate all your responses and will talk to the orthopedic doc in a couple of weeks at my next appointment. My primary care doctor said it may be spine related, but she is no specialist so can't be sure. If the ortho doctor doesn't think it's spine related I will ask the primary care dr to investigate further. I had a CT and MRI about 2 1/2 months ago and all seemed okay except for the spine.
Thank you again and I will keep in contact. I pray for all of you to feel better soon, and that you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be thankful for, I feel guilty complaining.

If your lymph node is becoming inflamed, that is something that should be investigated sooner rather than later. That is generally a sign of an immune system response to some sort of infection.
Have you brought this lymph node swelling to the attention of your GP?

I don't know if there is any inflamation, since there is very little swelling, no redness and no fever. Plus it is not tender to the touch at all. There is pain radiating from that area (not constant, comes and goes) but pressing on or touching the area doesn't hurt at all. As far as I know there is nothing that seems infected (at least externally), but do you think it could still be some inflamation from an infection somewhere, without any other signs? I will see the GP next week if it gets any worse and not wait.
usually you will get a fever with infection but it is always better safe than sorry. Sounds like what I experienced in the beginning. It felt like what I imagined a hernia would feel like. Good luck and please keep us posted.
