hi, has anybody taken Baclofen 20 mg 2or 3x a day.
My PM dr. just put me on that for muscle spasms in my
back. They don't happen all the time but are very
painful when they do. I just started it today and they
are supposed to keep the spasms away. Thanks.

  • I started on Baclofen in late January and started off at 5-10mg 3 times a day and worked up to the max of 80mg a day. It helped me some, but since I maxed it out we decided to try something else. So right now I am decreasing the Baclofen as we increase Zanaflex.

A dose of 20mg 2 or 3 times a day will probably knock you on your butt for a bit. It's a pretty strong drug.

What type of doc was it that prescribed the Baclofen?

It's a great drug, you just have to be careful with it as you adjust to it. Also you cannot stop taking it suddenly if you have been on it consistently for a period of time. I hope your doc discussed this all with you.

    I hope this helps.

  • Dorothy,

Was it the PA that you spoke about in another thread, that changed your muscle relaxer?

How much information were you given on Baclofen?

    "C"
  • yes, I did see the PA but it is also a drug that the
PM dr. recommends. Actually, I was given no information
about it other than it prevents spasms. I will call
on Mon. I did cut the dose on my own and so far today,
have only taken 10 mg. The only other drug that I
have taken for spasms is skelaxin as needed. Thanks.
  • baclofen doesn't do much for me, but I found a couple studies showing it is effective for people that are withdrawing from opiates, and it also gets rid of the 'rush' that some people experience from for example oxycontin. In this respect, I'm hanging onto my bottle because if I ever have to stop taking my meds, or my back gets better and I don't need them, it can actually help the withdrawal symptoms when you taper off of opiates.
