Anyone had surgery on T12?

15 months ago I was in an auto accident and had a burst compression fracture of T12. It hasn't healed properly, so my doctor is recommending a corpectomy or transversectomy. I think it is similar to a discectomy except they replace the vertebrae. 6-8 hr. surgery, 5-10 days in hospital, 60-75% chance of significant improvement. It's a big decision and I'd like to talk to someone who has been there to get some advice. Surgery or not?

  • I have a herniated disk in my thorasic area and my surgeon informed me if at all possible to try and stay away rom that surgery as it apparently is the longest to recover from. He said they have to go in through the side of my ribcage. I think thats why it isnt preformed that much.
I have no idea though as I havent had it done.
I hope someone here can help you out.

    Best Wishes,
    Christina :)
