I got a question. Can degenerative disc disease cause severe back pain to where you can not bend or twist and can last for over two years without much relief? I really need to know if this is possible. Any and all answers are appreciated and I thank you in advance for your time.

  • Welcome to Spine Health. As Cory said, yes DDD can be crippling to a certain extent.

Have you had any spinal evaluation or imaging studies done recently?

Do you do any kind of Physical Therapy?

Hope we can help by answering your questions.

  • I have been looking for answers now for approx 6-7 years. Of course with all things it only seems to be getting worse with time. I know I have DDD on multiple levels showing progression, but it is getting difficult to roll over in bed without pain and alot of effort. Any thoughts? I have tried therapy, shots and medication. All of those only mask the issue at hand. I can not stand up for more than 10 mins w/o being in a lot of pain. Not sure what do to anymore.
  • Yes I have DDD and can't work due to pain for 2 years now. Have you had any injections or Physiotherapy to help? I had a herniated disc which was not seen on my recent MRI but the Pain Management Dr. says there's probably still some nerve compression causing sciatica and that's why I received injections for the sciatica and facet joint and SI injections for the back pain.
DDD in a normal part of aging but in some people it can cause a lot of pain and can lead to herniated discs also. Lots of information in the Spine Health information written and reviewed by Doctors. Also read the DDD 'cascade' which I'm looking forward to when the back stops hurting. Best wishes for you. Take care. Charry
