Back Brace weaning

I have one of those velcro-type braces that I wear all the time except when in bed or in the shower. Do you have to wean off the brace or just one day be done with it? I've been wearing it for almost 4 months and will be glad to get rid of it. I go to the dr. Monday for check up and I'm sure he will let me know, but I'm just curious. Once you stopped using it, was there more pain from muscles that haven't been used in a while?

  • Wean it off slowly....give yourself time. It's been 4 months for me and I'm still weaning. I take it off alot at home but use it when im going out cause I know my back is gonna get sore.
Yes,your muscles that you havent used in awhile will take a while to build up so like I said, ween slowlyyyy.

    Good Luck,
    Christina :)

Take it easy. I'm 11 weeks post op ATIF. I stopped wearing mine a couple of weeks ago. I'm back in it today due to pain.

  • I was kinda thinking I'd have to wean off a little slowly--I'll find out tomorrow for sure. Hoping that the dr. will tell me he sees some fusion tomorrow! I've been going a little while without the brace at home when I'm sitting at the computer, but not too much. This afternoon, I felt like I would feel sooo much better if I could just lean over the sink and stretch my back out! I can't wait to be able to do that...maybe I'm supposed to be a cat! Thanks for the input!
