Hi all,
I'm freaking out a little =( I do have an appointment with my doctor on Thursday so I will talk to him about this but I wanted to come here and ask if anyone here has experienced this. My cervical issues are getting worse lately and today a spot on my top lip started getting that numb and tingly feeling. Now my nose and other parts of my face have that same feeling. I have had the arm and finger numbness for a while now. I value all the information I get from this site and most of all the advise etc from the amazing people here. Thanks for listening.

    Hey Lori,
Sounds like a pinched nerve in the cervical spine. I have not had your facial symptoms but I do have the arm and hand tingling and numbness even post-op. Possibly an EMG may shed more light on the source of your problem and most likely an MRI will be in order.
My c-spine is collapsing as I have severe OA. In Aug. 07 I had a discectomy,
corpectomy, multi-level fusion, with extensive hardware.
To me it sounds as if you are on the right track and hopefully you will receive the care and relief you so deserve.
Take care and the best of luck to you.

  • Thanks Ranger - sounds like you have been through a lot, I wish you nothing but the best. I'm just wandering if these facial symtoms are related to my neck issues? I'm sure my doctor will have some answers for me. It's always something new it seems like, it can be so scary sometimes. I pretty much have pain from head to toe, since I have lumbar issues as well, now my face is going numb - oh no!!! I'm going to try and get some sleep and forget about all this. I hope everyone has a great night.
  • I had the same numbness & tingling feeling on my face. After surgery acdf c 5/6 most of that is gone. The surgeon however told me that it had nithing to do with my spine.Well sine most of it is gone I believe it was. I still get numbness up the back of my head. I think I have just gotten used to it.
I hope you get the answers you're seeking. Take care :)))

  • Hello Lori<
    Welcome to Spine Health!

I am not sure how you injured yourself or ay of your history, but I wanted to share this with you!

When I injured my neck in a car accident. Right after the accident for a long whiel ..Months I would say..I had a numb and tingley sensation over my face, cheek that extended down my neck. It evenwas numb and tingly over the chin etc. Weird feeling.
I worked a lot with a Chiro, without adjsustments, mostly with massage and e-stim and those types of things. At the same time I was also working with my PM doc doing different types of Trigger points in the neck and other areas. After a time the numbness and tingly's sort of dissapated.

Sice my car accident I have had two neck surgeries.
the accidenet was on July 10, 2007 and I would say that the facial sensations had reduced about 40 percent before my first neck surgery on Jan. 8, 2008 for a Posterior Cervical Foraminotomy at C 3-4 and C4-5.

Then I recently had an ACDF=Anterior Cervical diskectomy with Fusion at C 4-6, on Sept. 3, 2008.

Since this last surgery I had had some small falre ups with the facial numbness etc. but for the most part they have not been to bothersome and in no way are a constant anymore.

I hoep this help you some. there are lots of folks out here on the board with similar stuff going on, so just keep asking questions and reading peoples posts. I am sure others will respond with their experiences!
    Hang in there...
    Chrissy
  • I had some random tingling in my nose and numbness around my left ear...seemed to occur when lying down. I also had random numbness at the top of my head, which seemed to occur when my head was bent forward for a long period of time....like soaking in the bathtub trying to warm those sore and achey body parts.

Those symptoms for me are gone post-op. Most docs will not attribute these type of symptoms to c-spine injuries. I'm not sure why, but maybe its still a bit of unknown territory for them.

    Good Luck and take care!
  • Thanks Kim, Chrissy & Patricia -
I really appreciate your responses, as always, great information. I am anxious to hear what my surgeon has to say on Thursday, we will see if he thinks it's related to my neck issues. I can't imagine that it wouldn't be? I am in so much pain and I have other areas that have that same weird numb tingly feeling that they say is related. I hate that feeling by the way, I have it in my left leg, foot and toes. My hands, arm and now my face. I had someone say to me, "well, if you are numb it shouldn't hurt too bad right"? Oh, if they only knew. That feeling can drive you crazy, and that is on top of all the pain, which includes the evil nerve pain. It's hard to describe to people, that's why I have stopped trying and I come here to vent when I need to, so once again, thanks for listening.
  • I started getting the tingling in my cheeck and nose in addition to the one in the arms and fingers. I googled and found your post! I was so freaking out and feel better now that I know I'm not the only one thanks!
