Intra Muscular Stimulation

Hi ;
I am scheduled to have Intra Muscular Stimulation (IMS) soon to try and help ease my chronic Pain and maybe even make it go away/disappear!(That would be fabulous!!)I have done a bit of Research on this and learned,that the Needles used, are longer then the Acupuncture Needles and these will penetrate the tight and shortened painful Muscle at its 'Epicentre" and are left there for 15 Mins for the Muscle to relax and lengthen.Apparently the Muscle will be stimulated through the Inserted Needle to keep relaxing,lengthening and healing for quite some Time afterwards and several,or a lot of, Treatments releasing dfferent tight and shortened Muscles are definitely necessary to obtain maximum Pain relief.It sounds really painful(no Freezing for this Procedure).It seems to be similar to Acupuncture,but needs a medical Assessment and sound Knowledge of Anatomy instead if Meridians/Chi.
I am wondering,if anyone has had this Procedure done,if is was as excruciatingly painful, as I think it will be and if it was successful in relieving chronic Pain.
Thank you.

  • Welcome Rosarian,

    I have not heard of this procedure before. What type of doctor or specialist preforms this?

    Please keep us updated on this if you can. Many of us are looking for different options. Someone may be along shortly that knows about or has experienced this procedure. I wish you the best and hope this will give you some relief.

    Take care of you

  • Oriah, I am very familiar with IMS treatments. I ad 9 sessions. I did not find it that painful, as the tratments were pretty short. You can definetly feel the needle go in and when they hit a real stiff muscle. It only lasts a couple seconds. You can be quite sore for a couple days afterwards. I was very optimistic and really looking forward to this treatment. Unfortunately, it did help a bit but not to the degree we had hoped. I live in Canada and I received these treatments at ***EDITED***. I think the website is called EDITED. Try that and hopefully that will help you. Take care, Nancy

    Hi Oriah,
    I'll keep you posted as soon as I have had one of the Treatments.It seems to be a fairly common Pain Treatment here in Canada,although I had not heard of it before,but perhaps it is not used quite as often where you live.
    Thank you and take care

  • Helen, it is a small world. I live in Banff. I was in at the spine clinic yesterday to go over my last test done in Red Deer. (discogram) funny name but true. They are not sure what to do next as there are various things going on with my back. They may try injections of some sort, they will keep me posted. I wish you well with your treatments. Keep us all posted. I have to tell you a cute story. These past 5 years have been very trying, divorce, sick kids etc. When I was actively working a lady who knew somewhat of my trials, said to me "Hold your head up high even if you neck is dirty." I always get a giggle from what she said. Take care and good luck. Nancy
