Hello everyone,
I have read through alot of the posts and Iam just curious. Besides a failed fusion, what are some of the reasons people have a 2nd fusion? Iam having more problems with my neck and just wandering what some other issues besides failed fusion that you might have had.
Thank you, everyone input is always appreciated.

  • Jeanette,
I needed to have my second surgery due to the damage my injury caused to my spinal cord. The Doctor's did not think my body would have handled 16 hours of surgery at one time. They fused c5-c6, c6-c7 during a 6 hour surgery to decompress the spinal cord where things were being crushed. The second fusion was done for stability after my laminectomy at c5,c6,c7. That was a 10 hour surgery.

  • My 1st ACDF was at C6-7 for ruptured disc after a violent coughing spell. After 18 months ACDF was at C5-6 for central disc herniation and spinal cord compression. NS said fusion puts stress on disc above and below which led to another fusion. I wonder what is in the future for the rest of my cervical spine. I feel like a china doll.
