Hello,
I am new to this board. I have had back pain and headaches for several years. Was told it was just arthritis. Finally went to a specialist and had an MRI and xrays and they found several things wrong. Problems with my neck, middle back and lower back. Will be having surgery in all three during 2009.

Am looking foward to talking with other's in this forum about their results with surgery and what to expect.

  • Hi and Welcome to Spine Health. I've had C-spine and L-spine surgery, thank goodness no T-spine surgery. 10 total and I'm back to working out and scuba diving. I'm of the mindset that if you put your mind to something, almost nothing is impossible.

  • Hi
I have decided to have the neck surgery first. Will be in February as soon as the Doctor can schedule it.

I have read a lot here on Spine Health and it has helped. A lot of information.

I checked out the Memory Foam Mattress Topper yesterday in town and not sure it would work.
When I pushed on it, it went completly down and stayed there.
Going to go to a mattress store and try laying on one.

Have any of you the mattress topper?
If so, how do you like it?

Was also looking at getting two egg carton toppers for the mattress.

  • Hey there first timer...oh that's right me too! :) We have been thinking about foam mattresses for years and I went and layed on some tempurpedic's ...they sure were nice AND EXPENSIVE too. Long and short of it this was just before christmas and was on the wal-mart site and saw 8" foam mattresses for less then $200 so i ordered it and it's the best da*& mattress I've ever owned! I'm 6'1" and 250 (+, but don't tell anyone) and it has great support. I just wrote a review of it the other day on the site the name is still the uper go read it...almost every review of the mattress says what a great deal it is...just hope it lasts a while before it's flattened by my big bu*&! take care
  • Thanks,
I will read your review on the mattress.

  • Hello, I hope all goes well for you. I bought a 2" memory foam mattress at W--Mart and love it. It provides good support and doesn't stay sunk down when you get up. I think I remember seeing different sizes available at the store.
  • We looked at the 2" mattress topper and I am thinking about getting it.

Will be seeing the doctor 1-27 to make the surgery appointment.

I have posted a new topic about how much help a person will need when they come home from the hospital, not with neck surgery, but with my lower back surgery and any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • I bought an 8 inch memory foam mattress topper from Walmart that is used as a mattress for $225.00. To make it more comfortable, we got a down feather mattress topper from Bed Bath & Beyond valued at $100.00 on sale 1/2 off. It feels great and it is guaranteed to stay fluffed up. This works for me until I can buy a $1000.00 mattress one day.
  • As it was time for a new mattress set, I decided to get a posturepedic set. The store that I bought it from had a 90 day return policy if I used a plastic backed mattress cover. I decided to go with the "plush" firmness, got it in October and haven't looked back since. It is awesome...has about 4 inches of memory foam and pillow top, but provides good support as well. Before that, I used the memory foam mattress topper from Walmart. It was alot cheaper than the other stores and did help.
Good luck Slowpoke60 - I hope you find something that encourages that much needed rest.

  • I saw the doctor today. I will be having surgery on Feb. 24, 2009, on my neck, this was the first date they had open.

    I have C5-6 C6-7 HNP Stenosis.
Type of surgery: C5-6 C6-7 ACDF

    What does HNP Stenosis mean?

Under special instuctions it says: POV, IMC ICU, SCM Vision, Peek,
I figured out ICU, and Vision ( I wear glasses) but don't know what the other things mean.
    Any help?

    thanks
