Hi

Sorry but I can't seem to get the search working tonight.

I recommended surgery to my friend. He had the operation 4 months ago. His leg pain is gone but he has severe pain in his back at the site of the operation. A recent CT scan revealed the cages were in the correct position. He had to cancel PT due to the pain.

Any ideas what it might be?

  • Harry - I'm sorry to hear about your friend's pain. Unfortunately, in working around the spine, there are an awful lot of things that can go wrong. I had two surgeries, a PLIF of L3-S1 on November 19th, and then an ALIF of L3-S1 on November 24th. They couldn't get all my damaged disc material out through my back because I had too much scar tissue. There are so many nerves there, both autonomic and sympathetic, that can be disturbed during the surgery. I have horrible right leg pain and the outside half of my right foot is totally numb. They just gave me Lyrica, which is really helping with that. It is a med specifically for nerve pain and it may help your friend. Have him/her ask the doc about it.
