I finally have a date =D> My surgery is scheduled for 12/19 at 7:30. Can anyone please tell me what to expect for a Minimally Invasive Poster Lumbar Fusion? I honestly don't know what to expect? I am getting staples instead of stitches :SS . Does the removal of staples hurt?I want to get myself mentally prepared. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

  • I'm not sure about a minimally invasive surgery as I just had a normal PLIF but I'm sure alot of ppl on thiss site can give you their advice.
Best of luck on your upcoming surgery and I hope it along with your recovery goes well =)

    Best Wishes,
    Christina >:D<
  • I haven't had surgery yet but wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. I think staples are better to me since being an RN and have removed both and I find staples much easier to remove. They're bigger and come out easier.I'm sure if you follow December surgeries and surgerry above topics you'll find more info. Take care Charry.

  • best of luck on your surgery im getting mine done a day before yours (lumbar laminectomy). i personally think staples would be more convinient
  • Hello SO, I had open PLIF with internal stitches and only steri-strips. It was great since there was nothing to remove but the tape strips on day 10. I think docs like staples cause they are much faster to put in than stiches. Anyway I have an awesome link to minimally invasive surgery. I will post it below. It is very informative about fusion in general as well. Check it out :) Sue
