I'm 22 years old and have had upper back, neck, and shoulder pain for 4 years now. I've been to multiple doctors; orthopedics, osteopaths, family doctors, spine specialists, etc..., along with multiple tests; mri, x rays, bone scans, blood tests, etc. Not one doctor has found a cause for my pain and it's driving me insane. It's all muscular and the tests show nothing out of the ordinary. I've been on many muscle relaxants, NSAID's and some other random drugs, such as elavil. I've had triggerpoint injections and they did not subside the pain. SO the only conclusion I have come up with is that stress or something has caused this pain and muscle tightness and it's considered a "myofascial pain syndrome". This is pretty much a self diagnosis. I started seeing a new doctor yesterday and he put me on trazodone at night, because I sleep very poorly, and prozac in the morning. From what I understand, the SSRI's and Tricyclids work in conjunction to help pain levels in some way? Is this correct and has anyone else ever had this combination of drugs and if so, has it helped? I feel like at 22 years old I should not be feeling like I'm 90, at least not before marriage haha.

  • That's rough you're going through that. I'm taking Elavil(amitriptyline) 20 mg at night. I'm taking wellbutrin as well as flexeril along with other strong meds. I've also had 8 triggerpoint injections every week for 8 weeks. Has your Dr. suggested physio where they can do myofascial release? You may just be right with your diagnosis. I hope this works for you. Take care. Charry
