Steroid patch for pain from muscle spasms

I went to PT today and my therapist decided to try using a steroid patch on my neck since I have been in pain for almost six months with muscle spasms. I cannot believe how well it worked!! After six months of pain every day today is the first time I have felt somewhat normal since surgery. It is wonderful!

Has anyone ever had the patch applied? I don't go back to PT for a week due to the holiday and was wondering how often they can be used. Also, I wonder how long the patch helps. Hopefully, the steroid will still be in my system tomorrow.

My doctor wanted to inject steroids in the muscle on the right side of my neck but that scared me so much my PT said I should try the patch first. I'm glad I did!

  • Glad to hear that it's working for you. I've tried Physical Therapy for my shoulder spasms and have been taking pain meds and muscle relaxers. I want off the pain meds so I might just have to ask about this when I call my doctor next week. I hope it could be that easy for me.
  • What kind of steriod patch is it??? :)
  • I don't know what kind of patch it was. You only leave it on for 2 hours. The PT put it on then attached something to it to ionize (I think that was the word) it so the medicine would go into the muscle. It felt like bee stings for a few minutes but then that went away. It's still working today so that's good. It's supposed to give some short term relief but I have no idea for how long. It's been nice to have my neck muscles relaxed for a couple of days. She said it reduces the inflammation.
