My sore ignored back

My back hurts something terribly from the midback to the tail bone area completely across. It hurt to touch, and very stiff when I get up from sitting. :T I also have balance issues. This is as a result of an accident 1.5 years ago. I have used heat only recently. My question if something is warm, hurts to touch should I still be applying ice? I have significant neck issues and I pray that the back will improve when I deal surgically with neck. They really have ignored my complaints on my back. Should I be insisting on a MRI/CAT of my back, or just let it go and wait until the neck surgery is done? Tell me what you think I should be pushing for.

  • Your PCP can order an MRI of your lower back. I don't think it would be out of line to ask what your Dr. thinks you should do. I found ice was helpful at times to bring down the swelling. But I mostly use heat on the back with my heating pad. I hope you get some more answers from your Dr. Take care. Charry

  • You have every right to know what is causing this pain in your back.My PM told me that moist heat is best and that ice wouldn't really be helpful, but that is with my problem-yours could be totally different.

What is wrong with your neck, and when is your surgery scheduled?Sorry,I'm sure you've posted about it somewhere else, and I don't blame you for being concerned.I would not want to be having surgery if another problem or more pain in another area came up.Actually I'm surprised that your surgeon isn't checking into this..it could be really difficult healing I would think with the lower back issues.
  • Hi Robin and Charry,
Thank you for your responses. I have actually just switched to heat, microwave heating bean bag. It feels good, but even clear afterwards the area remains sore and throbbing. I am still taking anti-inflamatories for this. The neck has been the only area to get a MRI= showed C5/6 was the worst part with herniation/osteophyte formation, spondolic changes and disk degeneration. I am only 38. There is evidence of change from C4-T1. I am going to see the neurosurgeon in the new year (March 24-but will try earlier)at time I will book the neck surgery and ask for some screening of my back. It doesn't seem to be getting any better, I guess this is all apart of living with chronic pain!! :''(
