Cervical/Facial symptoms

Hi. I'm new here, so don't know if I'm doing this right. I saw some people have similar symptoms to mine, so I'm hoping someone can help me with my problems. I've had an old L shoulder/C 5,6,7, injury plus complications from that, including severe Migraines. My Xrays show Degenerative Disc Disease at C5,6,7 and bone spurs, Nerve Root Impingement at that level to my L arm. Nothing helps much. But, this is NEW! I started having numbness in my face, lips, etc. radiating to my scalp and ears and now even my teeth are painful and my tongue is going numb! On top of that, everyday when I get up, most of my face is SWOLLEN!! Quite puffy all over. I don't know what it is. Has anyone had these symptoms?? I went to an E.R. a week ago and the Doc thought it was a C1/2 nerve impingement, radiating to the face/trigeminal nerves. I need an MRI. Obviously with this suddenly starting, the swelling and numbness, I am worried. They called today and said I'm booked for mid- March for the MRI! I can't wait that long! Isn't that ridiculous? No wonder some people get worse, even die waiting for help and treatment! Please share anything that may help. Thanks a lot, Tracy

  • Even in my dinky town my insurance had the option fgetting an MRI at the hosptial or a radiolgical center. In fact_ I was told my by inrance it would have ben cheaper if I had gone tot he radialogical center for both them and me! SO please check aoround-maybe something will be availble sooner in the next town's hospital! The numbness in face and lips, head, etc does sound like it is root impingment further up your cervial spine, but the swollen features are odd-of course I'm no doctor, but do you think it might be one of the meds they have given you? Check the bottle for side effects. I didn't one one of mine would give me blurry vision and I had just turned 55 and I was like, "Damn! they were right! Your eyes can go bad in just one day at my age."

But seriously, you should call your insurance company and see what other facitlites you can use so you can get in sooner. This sounds like something they need to address now-not later.

Good luck and keep the faith. It's is the sad truth of our health care system-we have to fight for our rights and care every step of the way. Take care!
  • I agree with Turtle, there are many things that can cause your symptons and I hope that your PC doc is exploring all avenues. Just because we're spinal patients doesn't mean we can't have other issues as well.

Turtle is right too about the MRI and other tests. I live in a tiny community and have a long way to go to see my spinal doc. He works with me to get some of my things done here rather than have to make that journey.

Hang in there and try not to panic. We're here for you if you need anything,
