My update

Thought I'd put out an update since I'm having a particularly bad week and it helps to try and put my scrambled, random thoughts down...decreases my frustration a bit! 8}

I am counting down the minutes until Friday morning, I am having another ESI. The last one worked for about 8 months and the sciatica is coming back all of a sudden, with a vengeance!! My back pain is increasing as well. My PM doc is starting to think about surgical solutions, he says the surgeons won't even consider doing anything until we do more injections and diagnostic stuff so that's the road I'm starting down. I am much more open to more invasive stuff at this point :( I'm now at the point where I am pretty miserable all the time. I have times where the pain is so intense I can't breathe for a few seconds!!

One good thing, the doc prescribed Tramadol and it actually will take away some pain! That's a first :))) It doesn't come close to eliminating it but at least it takes the edge off.

Thanks everyone for making a great community here at SH, I hope you all have a good week!

  • I hope Friday's ESI is successful and brings you relief for a long time. Those injections didn't do anything for me and I think you're very fortunate to have the effects last that long for you. And I'm amazed to hear tramadol helps you out as well. I know you will have a good outcome from all of this and the disc will heal itself gradually with the help of these treatments. Take care
  • I hope the ESI works too, at least that will calm my leg down. Before I didn't have the back pain, this time I do and it's like a double whammy. I am going to ask about weaning off the Lyrica. I thought it was helpful but now in retrospect I think it was the ESI.

    I'm not as optimistic about it helping my back pain, although the doc says it will help determine if the pain is caused by a disc. I'll find out more about the specifics tomorrow, I think he is going to hit more than just the nerve root.

    I am also a bit surprised about the Tramadol as I understand it is not as strong as Vicodin. Must be working differently and I'll take that.
