#:S ... I Have crohn's disease
and was experiancing sacral pain that was getting worse over time. my g.i. doc said its from my arthritis, which i was never told to much about. in 2007 i was in the icu my bp was low and my pulse at best 32 bpm and in immense pain. this is when they tried everything from lortab, oxycodone, percocet to fentanyl. i recently begged them to diagnose my back it began hurting so much and i had weaned down to just fentanyl 25mcg every 72 hours. they send me for xrays and and add lortab to the mix. i come back they cant even find the results i tell them what the the doc told me- ddd. my doctor tells me he wants to send me pain man., so i go get her opinons but she says nothing. tells me i should go to pilates?! and to fup with my primary. so i do and they dont get any recs from her for a month, basically they want her to prescribe. turns out once i do get ahold of her, shes not a pain mang like they thought. so i keep calling my primary cause at this point im out of my meds. they call back eventually tell me theyre going to call in some muscle relaxers, which they forget to do. so i get an appointment this guy didnt even realize taking me off pain meds which ive been on for 18 months. so i come home and hes put me on methadone and may switch to suboxzone sp?- i dont know what to think. im tired all day and still the pain is there. i havent been able to return to work yet where i just asked for and got a raise. has anyone else been in my situation?
I'm currently on methadone, topomax, baclofen, clonopin 6mp, sulfasalazine and prednisone.

  • I am so sorry to hear all the things you have been through. Sounds like you are being run through the wringer. I hope things get better for you shortly. Can you get another oponion from another doc? You should get copies of your written results of tests that you had done for your own records. I hope they find something soon to get your pain under order. I am glad that you joined this site as everyone here is so supportive and helpful.
  • :D hi and welcome to the forum! =D> we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. i am sorry you are having such intense pain. ~X( please make yourself at home and have a good look around. take care of yourself and good luck!! Jenny :D
  • i too have chrones .its not a pleasant disease at the best of times.thankfully sine i have been taking oxycodone i have not have any symptoms.{but i am due a colonoscopy in the next few months.where do you live ? i am in the uk manchester.i can't tell what is wrong with you back but i would suggest that you get another opinion .it has taken over 2 years for me to get diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome .i also have terrible back problems too!.anyway when you have some more details i may be able to offer you some better advice on pain control .meanwhilst if you wish to PM me on here or email me .please do so
  • Thats a good idea. This sounds dumb but- would I try another primary or spine doc for opinon. the doc that did the xray told me that ddd doesnt show up until it starts to get bad. my reg doc told me its not a big deal everyone has it.
  • Did you ever make your way to a Pain Management Specialist? That is probably the person that could help you with the meds. If you found something that helps the pain and you can still function it really might be worth fighting for. In some cases the best that we can hope for is pain relief through medication.
  • and wish you weren't suffering plus getting the run around with the docs. I hope you can get a second opinion and hopefully get on some positive treatment program..

    Take care,

  • I agree with painintheback that you should try to find a pain management doc that can help with meds and possibly injections
