CA - MediCal questions (CA only, not national)

I (and my son) was recently approved for MediCal in CA (state funded, not national/federal Medi-Cal). This is pending SSDI disability but supposed to help financially in the mean time.

Has anyone here had any experience with this insurance? It's retro to Nov. 1st which is nice, but it's an HMO, my PM isn't in their network, nearly everything requires an approval.. I guess that for all the positive energy I've put into things I still doubt how much it will help. If anyone has any advice or success stories with this ins., please share!

best wishes

  • Thank you =) It's little details like that, which make a big difference. I WAS hoping for a complexity that worked *IN* my favor, silly me!
  • :D hi! i live in California and get Medi-Cal. =D> i have yet to find a good pain management doctor through them so i must pay cash for mine. my GP of 25 years is not in the group and is not covered. again, cash payment each month. as for approval, things like your MRI, surgeries, many procedures require approval. i have always had any procedure i needed approved even if it took awhile. so work with the system the best you can. :D get your teeth and eyes looked at as well. good luck! Jenny :D
