exercising in the pool

We took the kids to the YMCA to swim over the weekend. The kids had a blast and I got to get some exercise in too. I was wondering if anyone does any pool programs for the pain and is it a safe way to get some exercise? I would love to start a program but my Dr doesn't want me to do therapy yet as I am still getting injections and Radio Frequency treatments. It sure felt good after I was in the pool. I was very sore the following day.
