Could problems with facet joints cause muscle spasms? How can facet joint problems be corrected?

  • I don't have any experience myself with facet joints. Thought you might like to read this though.

    Hope it helps some,

  • I have arthritis of my lumbar facet joints and the pain can definitely lead to severe spasms. The thing that has helped me the most with my facet joints is a rhizotomy (nerve burn). I must have it done once a year because the nerves will regenerate but it has been well worth it for me. There is no way to correct most problems with facet joints to my knowledge. Some docs will suggest a fusion but my doc and I have decided that waiting until a better option with more favorable odds comes along will be the best thing to do in my case.
  • Cindee- Great info. Thank you.

Pain in the Back- What test did you have done to find the arthritis in your lumbar facet joints? Was the arthritis due to aging and genetics or to the annular tear at l3/l4?

I ask because I don't think I have arthritis unless it happened over a year and a half. I read that facet joints can be injuried. I think if I do have this mine where injuried.

    Thank you for helping me.
