mattress topper

Hello everyone,
I will be having my PLIF and laminectomy in a couple weeks. I know a few of you have recommended memory foam mattress toppers. Does it matter the thickness? (i.e. 2,3 or 4 inch)
Have a great day,

  • Hi Annie:

Go to the website for Healthy Foundations. They have a lot of information on mattress toppers. I did a lot of reseach and came upon their website. They offer a 365 day guarantee with free shipping. The one plus about their toppers are they are cut full size to the bed. When I would read reviews on other toppers the size not covering the bed completely was a complaint. They address that issue on their website. I was undecided about the thickness also, but per their website they give different criteria as to weight. We got the two inch because of my weight although my husband is about 200 lbs and for him we could have gotten the 3 inch. On their website their thickness only go up to 3 inches.

We got a new Serta Perfect mattress for our first floor bedroom and that is where I slept until my 7th week post surgery. I still lie on that bed when I get home from work or when my back is bothering because it is like sleeping on a cloud.

However the memory foam mattress topper has made the upstairs bed much more comfortable. I do sleep on it every night.

Another handy item I purchased was called a Mattress Genie. It lifts the mattress so you are in a semi sitting up position, like the ones they show on TV. Also purchased that online

The best of luck with your surgery!

  • I bought an inexpensive 2 inch memory foam topper and a more expensive 3 inch one. The inexpensive one - though only 2 inches - was much more comfortable for me. (How often does THAT happen? I loved being able to return the more expensive item for a change!) Anyway, I would suggest you try a couple of them and see what works best for you.
