B) Hi....my husband had sugery Jan-08...gone thru PT and PM and still no relief. He says the pain is the same only worse. Went back to original NS & was told there is nothing else he can do...new NS wants to do nerve tests & suggeted epidural shots...he is not interested. He hasn't slept a full nite in over a year, wakes in the middle of the nite to go & sleep in a chair or just stay up. I don't know how much more we can do....I am at a loss to help and he gets no relief from doctors.....anyone have suggestions.....dawnid

  • I'm going through the same thing only I'm only 5 months post op and am still having horrible muscle spasms and shoulder pain. I've decided to see a shoulder specialist. You mentioned that your husband has seen his NS and now a new NS. Have you given any thought to an Orthopaedic Specialist? That's who has been treating me. Just a thought. Believe me I know how bad the pain can be and how it can affect your every day living. My thoughts are with your family. I hope your husband can find relief soon.
  • first let me say welcome to spine-health Dawn. Sorry to hear about your hubby and the issues he is having. What levels did he have surgery on? Did you have nerve test before the first surgery? Did your hubby go through fusion surgery? At the time of his surgery was there other levels showing issues that were left out of the surgery? All though we are not doctors here we can certain help some as to what we have gone through. Did your husband have myelopathy? Does your husband have hardware? If surgery was a fusion, has it fused? Did he ever feel better once the surgery was over and then it came back? Or is his pain the same pain he had prior to surgery?

I would strongly suggest that your husband go through with the emg study. It is another tool in the process to diagnosis what is causing the issues. When was his last MRI study completed? Although this is difficult to start the testing process over again when it comes to spine issues and nerve impingement it is not always black and white. If you have faith in the new NS that he/she is going to help you/him, then try to follow his suggestions so as you can get to the root of the problem. Below is a link on cervical radiculopathy which you can see if any of this seems like where is pain is associated with. A emg study will help isolate out these nerves. I'm not for jumping back into a surgery as the scar tissues only continues to build which could lead to issues in itself. Anyway keep us posted on the results of the test. Please understand you/he are not alone and that we all care and understand. Feel free to browse the site as there are many more articles and video's to help you/he understand some of the issues he is having. Take care.
