Severe lower back pain..I scream in pain

It only happens when I move, or try to get into bed, or out of bed, or cough or sneeze, then I get lower back pain so bad I can't move, the pain paralyzes my back and I can't move until it goes away. I say the pain may last for a minute. Also I have noticed I have no control over my bladder. I try to hold it but I can't. I am 36 years old. I also have kyphosis. I have a 75 degree curvature of the spine. Also I have some bone loss. I am just wondering what is wrong with me because the pain hurts so badly. I also sit in a chair all day long at my computer, so I am wondering, if I should do some exercises. I was reading bed rest helps but I am not sure how long I should rest for, until I can get healed, if that is even going to help. I say this started about 5 months ago and has not gone away. I don't get the back pain all the time, just if I move the wrong way, it sets it off and I can tell when it is going to happen because I get a little pain and if I try to bend, or sit down, then I get this back pain that makes me want to scream and yes it hurts that bad. I also went to a back doctor a long time ago and he cracked my back because of the deep curvature in my spine, to try to get it straight. I noticed a day after very severe lower back pain and pain shooting down my leg and a very bad headache that lasted for 3 days. Ever since I have had back problems, but now it's much worse. I am afraid to see a back doctor after that. So is there something I can do to try to help myself?

  • First off let me say I am by no means a doctor or any sort of medical professional.

If you are having loss of bladder control you need to see a doctor.

I dont know your whole situation and how long your problems have been going on but you should read this:

    Best of luck to you.
  • hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can.. if you are having bladder problems it is imperative you talk to a doctor.. :-C this is nothing to wait on.. please realize back care has come a long way and "cracking your back" is not standard back care with an unknown diagnosis.. rest can often times make your back feel better but with the bladder problem i would not count on any home remedies right now.. please keep us informed!! :D good luck! Jenny :)
  • Hi there,

Can't emphasize enough the advice already given. Loss of bladder control is a sign that indicates you need urgent evaluation by a doctor. So just in case you were in doubt... please go see your doc or go to an ER if you haven't already.

Good luck and keep us posted. ;)

  • all the above //PLEASE seek medical advice now!!!!
  • I am going to the ER tomorrow. I have no way to the doctor but something has to be done. If I move the wrong way, dear God here comes that pain and I can't move when I get this back pain. It really hurts bad. If a doc said from 1-10 how do you rate the pain..I'd say 100. I have to be careful when I bend because that sets off the pain, or the way I move, if I move the wrong way I am in pain and I cry for it to stop. I still can't hold my pee and I feel sick. I bet I need back surgery and I am no doctor but this pain is beyond painful. I don't know once I lie down on the doctor table if I can get out of bed, it may take me 5 minutes, to move and get up. And when I am walking my back feels sore and I can feel sometimes when I am about to go into back pain. I try to avoid it but sometimes I can't. I have a big bump in my back and I feel it with my hands. It's huge. I know I should not drink beer like I do but with this pain, until I am seen, which is going to be tomorrow I need to be buzzed..I can't take this pain.
  • What exactly do you mean when you say you "have a big bump in my back"? Is it bone that you're feeling? Is it more like a cyst? Or is it some other type of swelling going on? Where is this big bump located? Is it in the lumbar area?

Did you go to the doctor today? Hope you're doing better.
  • The bump is towards the lower end of my back and I do have a 75 degree curvature in my back and some bone loss, which does not help. Someone told me to take some advil and see if that helps, so I am going to see if that helps with the pain in my back. It hurts to move though. If I stay still then it's not so bad, but if I try to walk around I start feeling the pain start to come on. Should I try to walk in this pain, or rest?
I mean maybe with some advil and if I went for a walk it may help. Until I am seen by a doctor.
  • I truly hope you're at the hospital right now. You need to be under a doctor's care for all your back problems. Bladder incontinecy is serious and it needs to be evaluated ASAP, don't wait! Please let us know what happens with you. Take care
  • I had the same symptoms for about 9 years, minus the bladder problem that didnt surface until early last year. After eight years of muscle relaxers and PT they finally gave me a MRI. The Doc was amazed that I was even able to walk with the amount of damage I had to my L5/S1. I would HIGHLY reccomend that you get it checked out ASAP. I just hope that you don't end up like me and have to deal with muscle relaxers for years on end when that was not the real problem.

  • I'm not a doctor but I suggest that you see a specialist and have your back checked. But according to the website I found, az massage therapy school a good massage can be a remedy to the pain your are experiencing right now. A massage that is done correctly can ease the pain. Deep tissue massage is used for chronic tight or painful muscles, postural problems, and repetitive strain. This type of massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. There is often some level of physical discomfort during the massage, as the massage therapist works on the deeper muscle layers. People usually feel sore for one to two days after the massage. You can also try swedish massage.
  • The problem now is I can't even take a shower because if I try to stand up it, it feels like I am going to fall over and then I get very painful back spas in my back if I try to move on my own. My legs are weak and shaky. This has been going on for 5 days now. It's getting worse. Today I had to crawl on the floor, until I could get to my chair. I could not stand up. I am using a mic stand as a cane. I have to use both hands to hold it, otherwise it feels like I am going to fall..maybe I won't fall over but I am that weak. 3 months ago I could walk but would get very painful spas in my back sometimes. The last 5 days It's like I am almost crippled. I can try to walk with holding on to something, just hope I don't fall on my face. And as soon as I let go of my mic stand I use as a cane it feels like I'm going to fall. I'm 36 years old, though it feels like I am 60. Trying to get off the couch was not fun at all. I stayed stuck in the same position for quiet sometime and could not move, so I got on my knees and crawled across the floor. I tried to let go of the couch and walk but it was
like I could not move. This is weird, it's like my mind keeps blanking out when ever I try to move. It's hard to explain. Or maybe my mind is trying to block out the pain, so I could just be afraid to move also because of the pain.
