Anyone heard of this procedure? I went to pain dr this week and he changed my meds. i really need fusion but I think I will just live with it but he told me he could do the above procedure with needle to fix herniated disc. As far as I know, he is just pain management dr. What do you all think?

  • And I had the procedure done on saturday (5 days ago). It's a little machine called the DeKompressor(r) that is pretty much like an "as seen on tv" miracle device. Essentially a fancy dustbuster with a big needle on it. Ok, I'm joking a little.

Some people, including one friend of mine had miracular results doing this instead of a regular discectomy. The story is that the doc or pain mgmt specialist is able to get the needle into the disc without any incision, removing some of the disc juice and shrinking it. Some people feel immediate relief. Some take longer. I actually found this board because I am unfortunately not one of the miracle cases and I've been in more pain since having the procedure done. I'm looking to find out more about the experience other people have had.

If you're watching this thread, let me know, and I'll update you as I recover, or let you know if I don't.

There isn't much info out there on the web except propaganda for this "miracle machine" that I could find. I found the procedure itself much more painful than promised and the recovery so far much worse than advertised.

Then again, I was deluding myself to expect a lot, and quickly.

    Good luck.

  • I was just wondering if you have felt any relief from this procedure yet? I'm just trying out th eSpinal epidural injeection just got it done 3 days ago. But with cold weather moving in it is really had to tell if it is working! I hope that you are feeling better
  • After a year (and physical therapy, 7 cortisone injections (L4L5, L5S1, and facet), 2 nerve blocks, and radio frequency ablation), my pain management doctor has now suggested the percutaneous discectomy using the deKompressor. Whew!

    How has your experience been?

I am reading that it is not as successful for disc centrally protruding. May I ask your diagnosis going into the procedure?

    Many thanks for sharing!
  • I have excruciating painin my lower back that radiates to my hips and down the front if my leg. MRI 2 months ago confirmed 3 severe bulging disc. I see the pain management doctor in 2 weeks for consult on the steroid injection then possible PLD. I had to give up running and most exersizing. Even intimate moments hurt severely! Does the procedure really work? I am desperate!
  • It is definitely worth trying. I had this done in Dec 07 and it did help with my leg pain. Good luck and keep us posted.
  • And my recovery is taking a lot longer than expected. I had to go to the ER 3 times before they decided to check anything out for real. They want me back to work in 4 days and I just spent 2 in the hospital. Not many people have said good things about this. I was supposed to be back yesterday to work.
