I had an EMG that showed carpal tunnel in my wrist and
deep shoulder impingment. Ortho says surery wont help with
neck and back issues but recomended carpal tunnel sugery.
Will wrist surgery help with my neck pain?

  • I had both my rt (05) an lt(06) carpel tunnel - I can tell you that it greatly improved the tingling, pain and numness in both hands. I had waited years to do this - my children were little and i waited till my youngest was 4 and could dress him self without a problem. I couldn't even cut up my own meals without having to stop and shake my hands "awake" - recover is long - meaning you can't use that hand to twist for 6 weeks - but the pain is over quickly (days to 1 week).

I now have tingling in my outer fingers, but that is not carpel tunnel. Just pull your fingers backwards one at a time and see where you feel the 'pull' (index, middle and thumb (though thumb has to do with neck too) through the wrist; ring pinkie through the lower arm) Nerves enter at different spots.

It has been worth it to help my hands - I do not reqret it and wish i had done it sooner, but had good reasons to wait.

say that if you had wrist surgery that you neck pain would improve.
I can only use a example:
Using a computer mouse most of the day, can not only cause some wrist/arm problems, but it can start working its way up to your neck. Its the general strain that is being placed in one area, can easily affect another area.

So, is there a time when you keep your wrist basically inactive have you noticed if there is any pain in your neck?
If so, then I would think that correcting what is causing the wrist pain would make a lot of sense
