Hi! New to this site. Im a 30yrs old, mother of 2, & married. Living with chronic pain for past 6 years. In 2003 had 2 herniated discs at L4 & L5. Had 2 level micro discectomy that year. I did well for about 8 months then the pain started coming back. MRI showed no problems except scar tissue. Had severe pain in low back & left leg, weakness in left leg. In 2004 started seeing pain specialist. Had 2 epidurals that didn't help, had nerve ablation, nerve conduction test (which showed severe nerve damage). Then did trial for neuro stimulator. Had stimulator implanted in Dec. of 2006 which helped with about 50% of my pain. The weakness in my left leg got worse and I had increased falls, now my leads are out of place with the stimulator and it no longer works. I started seeing another pain specialist last year. I am taking morphine 3 times a day, lyrica 3 times a day, and vicodin as needed. My pain specialist is recommending that I have a facet joint block (if that works then do the rhizotomy). I am having doubts about having this procedure! I am afraid to have any one touch my back, and I don't have insurance. I can't work due to pain. Some days it is so severe that it is hard for me to walk, get up from sitting ect. I am just trying to do the best I can with what I have. #:S Does any one have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate the suggestions & support! Thanks

  • I had the rhizotomy about a year ago,it did help with my er pain,it lasted about a year,i had it done on the L-5 S-1,and L-3 l-4 LEVELS..
  • Girl you have been through the ringer. I am so sorry for what you have had to go through. I am willing to bet, too, that there aren't many people around you who understand the intensity of the pain you have had to endure. People who don't have back/neck pain really don't get it. Well, I can empathize to a degree. I just had surgery myself, owie! My suggestions are regarding your personal and spiritual life. If you can, take some time for yourself, nurture yourself, and hang out with positive people. As for me, I couldn't have done it without God in my life. Are you getting support in that area? I am sincerely sorry for your troubles and will pray for you. PM me any time, you are welcome to cry on my shoulder (or perhaps we can cry on each others' shoulder cuz I am hurtin right now too). Hang in there. So glad to see you here in spine health.
PS Did you know that we have a chat room? We joke, laugh, and cry together. It is a great place to go with like-minded people. Just click "chat" on the left and voila!
Hope to see you in chat or hear from you in PM. Take care!
  • I can feel some of your pain, This site has helped me to cope with the pain and learn to relax while reading the posted messages. I also rely much on God. wish you well. Dan
  • hi and welcome to the forum! :H we are here to offer you support and answer what questions we can. you seem to be doing everyting right. =D> alot of people here have had facet blocks and for many it does work. please check out the different forums and make yourself at home. :D good luck as you seek pain relief! Jenny :)
  • I've had 2 sets of 4 facet joint injections for arthritis and with no sedation and they hurt a little. But I found better movement and less grinding in my back. Ask your Dr. for pain meds before and a sedative. I'm also going to find another PM Dr because these first two I had don't do rhizotomy and I think it would help me. Good luck with your decision and take care. Charry
