8 weeks post-op with no relief. I have read post, upon post, upon post, and I am scared. Doctor made this surgery seem like a walk in the park, no real honest disclosure about all this pain. Even after 8 weeks, my back around the surgical scar is so swollen. Its like two grapefruits have been placed in my back. I was worried about a dural tear, but I do not have any headaches. Every day I am becoming more and more negative. I still cannot drive. I tried and was down in pain for a week. I cannot walk around so much as a grocery store without being down, again, for a week.
I am losing faith and becoming so depressed, but I just wait - Wait for the day I wake up and am not in any pain.
I have a few questions:
When do you KNOW if the fusion is a success? I was x-rayed at 6 weeks, but he didn't tell me anything.
Can my body "reject" the hardware causing all this swelling?
Has anyone else gone 8 weeks in pain, possibly more, and then fully recovered? In other words, is this pain normal and will I someday have some relief?
Any suggestions, besides ICE, to get this swelling under control? Positions, medications, hot tubs, etc...
