Pain & Stiffness ....drs say this is as good as it gets

Was rear ended while stopped 16 mos ago while stopped at a cross walk while someone crossed in front of me.

Dealt with pain/stiffness/headaches non stop until doc finally sent me to phys therapy last oct. I have improved some but now p/t, chiro and massage therapist say this is as good as it gets. I have days where I cannot turn my neck. If I hold my toddler or grocery shop, do any cleaning for longer than a few minutes I'm in pain and become horribly stiff. Luckily my recovery time has improved but it still takes a whole day or more to get back to "normal" pain and stiffness. I held out hope because doctors did but now they say this is as good as it gets.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I cant see living like this for the rest of my life.

  • there are little increments of getting better, sometimes we also go a step backwards, but never a total complete landslide, unless there is another unfortunate accident. hope not, just do some small and gentle stretches, here is where the excersizes taught by the p/t guys can pay you small dividends for the long run, and remember ...here the no pain no gain ethos is kinda out the window.
    take care and be brave!
there will be good and bad days, but getting to know the ins- and outs of what affects you,
and the totality of your pain will give a better understanding and that is power for you.
coz you cant be afraid of what you understand.

    Welcome to Spine-Health

  • your diagnosis? Have you had x-rays? An MRI? Seems like they should be taking some steps to find out the root cause of your pain.

    Just my humble opinion.

Right now, I really have no idea what your actual diagnosis is. You say you have pain, and you said your Therapist have told you Its as good as its gonna get???
I dont know, I have a very difficult time hearing those words.
Even with a person who has had over 15 spinal surgeries in braces, etc, there are always things that can be done.
You appear to be having problems starting 16 months ago.
Help us to explain what those problems are, what the doctors, the specialists have told you. All the diagnostic tests, what have they said. What about all the conservative treatments, how have you fare with them?

The point is, with just your post, we cant tell if you have done some of the above, none of the above or all of the above.

The more information you can provide us, the better we can be at replying. You are asking for suggestions, that is fine and normal, we are asking for some more details so that we can try to help
