question about help for spasms

I get muscle spasms in my lower back-I never know when
it will happen. That's the worst part of it. A friend
told me yesterday that tonic water which contains quinine
helped her get rid of the spasms. Has anyone ever heard
of that? I would appreciate any feedback. I take
Baclofen-10mg-higher dose makes me dizzy. I also take
tram or alleve.
I have arthritis in my lower back-facet issues and
and sacreilliac-sp.pain and bursitis in my hip.
When a spasm hits, I have difficulty walking because of
the pain. Thanks.



  • I dont really know about the tonic water. I get spasms in my calf, hamstrings and lower back. Ive tried a few muscle relaxers and the one that worked best for me was valium, and flexeril worked well too. Ive never used baclofen. Stretching the bad areas daily can help as well.

    are some of the natural methods in dealing with muscle spasms. These things can be effective for many spasm type problems. If the spasms are more than occasional and become almost chronic then you need to go to a doctor to identify why you are having the spasms. When that is determined, the appropriate action plan can be put into place.
    In many situations, the right exercise program can handle many spasm related problems.

  • My chemist recommended taking magnesium for muscle soreness, and after a few weeks on it I'm sure it is helping a lot.
    I use Ultra Muscleze.
    I've also just begun a remedial massage program, along with gentle stretches.
    You may need to look at a similar multi-level approach, as it is usual for several things to be contributors.
    A muscle spasm is a defensive action by the body to protect, and then the muscle gets all tight and knotted.
    You will need some treatment to calm the muscle down! Very gentle massage should help, over a period of treatments.
  • I've been drinking it for about a year now, along with Baclophen, for my muscle spasms. It does seem to help with occasional soreness and spasms, but if they are heavy duty, a multi-faceted approach mentioned above is best. But as a natural aid to other things, it has helped me. It is an acquired taste, but I like it. Good luck.

  • That's an interesting solution for spasms I have some tonic water I must try it. Have you had facet joint injections? I've had 2 sets and feel better movement and less pain. Thanks for the quinine tonic water tip. Take care. Charry
