I am three months post op 2 level PLIF with discetomey. I had three discs with tears. Two were annular. My question is I have recently been having more pain in my hip area and more recently had burning sensations on both of my legs and alot of burning feeling on my feet. This is a new symptom. I have never had this prior to surgery. I know I have alot of nerve damage from the 2 1/2 years of waiting for the problem to be found. Is this the nerves healing or is this a sign of a new problem. I figure that maybe someone here has had this happen. Any suggestions? My Dr is in surgery the next few days, and it will be Monday before i can talk to him.

  • I'm sorry that I can't offer you more than some sympathy. I simply don't have any real experience with lumbar problems save that I have a bulging disc that I don't even want to think about right now LOL!

I know that Monday is a long time to wait but in the long run your doc is the only one who can provide you with the answers. I know that others with lower back issues will come on soon to help you through this until then.

Hang in there lady, we're here for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is good news and that you have nerves waking up (which can be painful) rather than a new bad symptom.

  • I have that burning on one foot on the top where the crease is and iced my foot. The epidurals I had helped quite a bit. I haven't had surgery though but always went to Dr with any new stuff. I think someone would be on call for your Surgeon to help you more. Take care. Charry

can present themselves in different ways. Personally, from what you are describing it does not sound like nerves healing but instead nerve pain. When you mentioned that you had waiting that period of time before having surgery, it would not be unrealistic to believe that it may take up to a year for the nerves to heal.
To be on the safe side, you should contact your doctor... Even if your surgeon is not available, all doctors have an on call doctor or another doctor to call in their absence.
If you were just 3 or 4 weeks post op, I would tell you not to even worry. 3 months out, its not a worry, but something that at least should be checked into.
