I don't know about the block I just wanted to say I hope you get relief and that it all goes well for you. Have you scheduled it yet? Good luck. Hope you're having a good day.

  • Hi, I just received my first nerve block injection on the 26th. They injected around L2 and again around L3. I was very nervous because I had SI joint injections that were very brutal. Well to my surprise the only thing that really caused any pain was having the IV line inserted. My right hand didn't want to cooperate so into the left hand the DR went. Once they started the twilight medicine I didn't feel any pain. I was alert the whole time and could only feel light touching sensations on my back. I went home afterwards and iced. I can't really say that my pain level increased any at all because of the icing and taking my meds. So far I am waiting for some kind of relief. Next week I will get my next nerve block and I am no longer nervous about it. Hope that helps you out.
  • I hope you get some relief from the injection. I don't get any sedation only a local. I wish I could find a Dr that does twilight sedation. Take care. Charry

    Hi Debbie,

Thanks for the reply and well wishes...sadly im still waiting on the NHS..seen privately (paid by my work) and they quoted £1500 for the injection...my specialist said get it done on the NHS, however i will have to wait till June/July now..i am complaining about how long i have to wait....i seem lucky..least its not major surgery compared to the stories i have read on here. Hi bep1224,

Thanks for the reply,s sounds like your on the road to pain relief..glad to hear it has gone well. The doc said i would only have a local anaesthetic due and numbing of the local area due to obstructive sleep appnea and will find discomfort. But from reading what you have written its more of a worry of the unknown rather than the procedure...please keep me updated of your progress..like wise. X

    Hi Charry,

Thanks for the reply and hope you are well.

Like wise re the sedation, because of sleep appnea...putting me out would be nice however a longer stay in hospital...going to dr.s on tuesday my pain killers are not working, apparently i need something stronger like a morphine base.

    Hi!

I had my second nerve block last tuesday and yes it works for me. I have a severely damaged L4/L5 and L5/S1. I had the injection in my L5. The nerve is so inflamed that it is double the size of the same on the other side. I can still feel the pressure but the FULL-ON intense pain has lapsed compared to before. Maybe don't expect TOTAL relief but definatley expect the pain to subside at least 60%

Good luck and I hope it works for you too.

  • I just thought I would let anyone who is going through these procedures that it is no walk in the park. I have had nerve blocks done on my L-4&L-5, and also on myL-5&S-I joints. They help for a little while, but then the pain just comes right back. I have been given these nerve blocks without any sedation and let me tell you, it is no fun! The problem that I am facing now is that I will either have to get a pain pump put in or have major surgery on my back to replace the 3 discs that are herniated and setting on the nerves which cause my numbness down my right leg. So if anyone has any sugestions, I am ready to listen.
  • Hiya,

Thanks for the reply and taking the time to write.
The doc said i would have local pain relief and already pridicting the fun it will be when they hit the nerve..the protusion he states doesnt warrant surgery straight away...ive got a feeling they are going through the motions of doing the jabs first...are they supposed to settle the nerve down..dr. has not made it clear of what happens after that etc and whether i will have another one or any further treatment!!!
  • Waynus,
I had a nerve block for the S1 nerve root recently. They did it for diagnostic purposes. It wasn't too bad. It hurt somewhat when they put the die in (numbing agent??). But my S1 distribution area went totally numb for about a day, and then the regular pain came back. I didn't think it was that bad, but I had a great doctor, I thought.
